5 of the Best Slots by Nolimit City
Australian game developer Nolimit City are the biggest thing from down under since Big Time Gaming blasted a Bonanza-shaped hole in the online slots market back in 2016. Following in the footsteps of their Megaways™-touting peers, Nolimit have created a firesome catalogue of high variance slots packed with features in just a few short years. With each new release and dizzying maths model, just like BTG, they break new ground. We’ve delved through their impressive catalogue and come up with five of the best Nolimit City slots so far.
San Quentin X Ways
The US’ toughest prison, inspiration to many films and a Jonny Cash classic, has now been turned into the backdrop to one of the best high-risk slots of recent years. Proving that it’s all about upstaging your rivals, here Nolimit cranked up the winlines to a staggering 13 million thanks to two extra features called Razor Splits and Split Wilds where icons on the reels split in two, creating more symbols per reel and hence more win ways.
The gameplay in San Quentin xWays and features neatly use prison ‘cells’ and ‘lockdowns’ in keeping with the theme and the top payout is whopping 150,000x, a figure that is rarely matched in any slot from the last decade.
Deadwood
In their 2020 release, Deadwood, Nolimit followed up the success of Tombstone and once more ventured into the Wild West, a familiar territory for anyone fanatical about high risk slots play (it also provided the backdrop for Dead or Alive by NetEnt, another hugely popular and massively volatile game).
In Deadwood there are just 576 paylines – small by Nolimit’s standards – and the key feature is their trademark xNudge. Here, stacks of symbols nudge up or down to fill the screen, progressing a win multiplier up by 1x with each nudge. There’s also a Gunslinger free spins round which can help players to reach wins of over 13,000x.
Book of Shadows
Another instant classic from 2020 was this horror slot as Nolimit made another mark by adding their own twist on the ‘Book of …‘ series of high risk slots made famous by Play no Go (Book of Dead) and Novomatic (Book of Ra). Nolimit’s version follows a similar pattern of gameplay with a special symbol revealed in the Book before the bonus round. This symbol expands when it lands in the free spins round to make a full screen of identical icons possible. Nolimit’s typically dark spin on this story is to introduce the witche’s Book of Shadows as the theme! A nightmarish slot, but one with big potential at 30,000x.
Barbarian Fury
Once more we see the volatility cranked up to the max in this crazy ice age-themed slot which produced wins of up to 8,000x per spin. The idea behind the game is an original one, set in a land thousands of years back, and again
Nolimit seem to enjoy putting a dark edge on all their games – the backdrop to the reels turns blood red in the free spins round. The central feature in this one is the xNudge and Re-Spins which hold a stack of identical icons in place whilst all other reels spin again. It is possible to unleash a good sequence of wins involving multipliers, stacks and free spins here too, which has turned Barbarian Fury into something of a cult classic.
Punk Rocker
Our final choice for the top 5 Nolimit City slots is their gritty London game, Punk Rocker, which channelled the energy of 70s rock music into another high variance game which featured iconic London landmarks and people pimped-up as punks, including Chuchill as a Mohican. This slot put Nolimit on the map for many people as it is as eye catching as it is playable. The best features include Expanding reels and Anarchy and Civil War free spins. You can spin with up to 46,656 paylines and win up to 8,000x if the punk gods are on your side!
Those are just 5 games by this exciting Australian game studio that we have come to know and love. They are a great place to start if you haven’t tried them yet!

GamCare releases Annual Report following record breaking year of support on the National Gambling Helpline
GamCare’s National Gambling Helpline received a record 55,228 calls and online chats from people experiencing gambling harm in 2023-24 – a 25% increase from the previous year – according to the charity’s Annual Report.
In a year marked by uncertainty over the future shape and structure of the gambling harms treatment sector following the previous government’s white paper on gambling reform, the charity continued to prioritise those at-risk of, or currently experiencing, gambling harm.
Of all calls and online chats that were responded to on GamCare’s Helpline in 2023/24, 41,070 (74%) were classed as supportive interventions. This includes supporting people with initial guidance and advice as well as delivering a seamless entry point into structured treatment services, with individuals completing treatment reporting a significant reduction in gambling-related distress and financial harm.
In March 2024, the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities published an assessment of the gambling treatment system, highlighting that 57% of individuals engaging in treatment were referred by the National Gambling Helpline. This underscores the Helpline’s critical role in connecting people to the support they need. Over 9,100 free treatment sessions were delivered in the year to April 2024, with an average of just 2.1 days’ wait from point of referral.
GamCare’s targeted programmes aimed at young people, women, and the criminal justice system provided training on how to spot the signs of harms and where to signpost into support for 10,344 professionals, and education for 53,324 young people, children and parents. The Women’s Programme, in partnership with organisations such as Refuge, trained 3,813 professionals to recognise and address gambling-related harm among women.
Margot Daly, Executive Chair of GamCare’s Board, says: “Throughout a challenging year and with heightened demand for our services, GamCare’s staff have got on with the job of preventing harm where possible and treating harm where necessary. While we expect important changes in the gambling harms landscape, we have been determined not to let this uncertainty affect our relentless focus on the people who really matter – those at-risk of or currently experiencing gambling harms.
“I would like to thank and pay tribute to our frontline staff who provide 24/7 support for all those at risk or in distress. I also want to thank GamCare’s senior executive team who have steered GamCare through a period of sustained change, and to my fellow trustees for their guidance, unwavering support and the time each has dedicated to ensuring that the charity stays on course and on mission.
“As we look ahead to how the future of the gambling harms sector is shaped, we are committed to working proactively with the NHS and other partners and commissioners to ensure that people are continually able to receive the right support at the right time.”
