NEW CEO TO LEAD THE NEXT PHASE OF GROWTH AT SPOTLIGHT SPORTS GROUP

Alan Byrne stays on in new advisory role as Mark Renshaw steps up to lead UK and U.S. focused expansion
Spotlight Sports Group (SSG), a world-leading technology, content and media company, has today announced that Mark Renshaw, formerly Chief Operations Officer (COO), will succeed Alan Byrne as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). In line with SSG’s long-term succession plan, Renshaw, who has been with the business for 14 years, steps into the role with immediate effect. Byrne remains as a director of the business, and will also assume a new advisory role.
Discussing the changes at SSG, new CEO Renshaw said: “Alan, I and our management team have spent the last few months crystallising exactly where we can accelerate growth and find new areas of opportunity. We’re absolutely clear on where we want to take Spotlight Sports Group and I am tremendously excited about the path we’re on to grow our people and our business. My thanks go to Alan for all of his support during our time working together, and I am delighted he is allowing us to leverage his remarkable experience in his new capacity”.
Renshaw continues: “We have the greatest team we’ve ever had – working on huge betting brands, such as Racing Post in the UK and Pickswise in North America. I’m equally excited about our global B2B division, which allows our sportsbook, publishing and fantasy sports partners to leverage our products, content and conversion-led expertise to drive sustainable and attributable revenue growth”.
Alan Byrne said: “It is a delight to see Mark appointed. He has been at the heart of most of the best things SSG has achieved in recent years and I have thoroughly enjoyed working with him. I know Mark has all of the skills required to lead the excellent SSG team and will continue to drive the growth of the company in the UK, North America and beyond”.

VGCCC Continues Crackdown on Underage Gambling

Following the successful prosecution of the Peninsula Club in Dromana, Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission (VGCCC) CEO Annette Kimmitt AM reiterated the regulator would continue to crack down on venues that allow children to enter poker machine areas.
The Magistrates’ Court of Victoria fined Victorian Amateur Turf Club, the venue owner, $7000 for 2 breaches of the Gambling Regulation Act 2003 (Vic) and ordered it to pay VGCCC costs of $3500. No conviction was recorded.
Ms Kimmitt said: “This is a warning to every venue. The onus is on you to ensure that children cannot and do not enter the gambling area or participate in any gambling activity, even if they’re with an adult.
“Equally, staff must be adequately trained and present in the gambling area to supervise while machines are in use.
“Research tells us that people who begin gambling at a young age are at greater risk of developing gambling problems as an adult.
“The rules exist to protect children from exposure to, and harm from, gambling.”
On 10 June 2023, a child entered the gambling area of the Peninsula Club twice and was able to use the poker machines on both occasions. During the second visit to the area, while with adults, the child used a poker machine for about 5 minutes, until staff intervened.
Magistrate Ayres considered the venue’s self-reporting, its lack of prior convictions, early plea and remediations implemented to reduce the chance of future offending.
