KwaZulu Natal Online Esports Championships – 23 July 2022
Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) is still on the hunt for athletes with which to populate its Protea Teams to serve South Africa for 2022 to 2023.
The KwaZulu Natal Championships affords many players with a last attempt to qualify for MSSA’s National Team Trials (NTT).
At such National Team Trials players shall be selected for IESF’s 14th World Esports Championships (Bali) for the following game titles:
- Counter-Strike: GO (mixed)
- Counter-Strike: GO (female)
- DotA 2
- efootball
- Mobile Legends: Bang Bang
- PUBG Mobile
MSSA’s 2nd Gauteng Online Provincial Championships shall be held on 23 July 2022.
In order to participate, Registered Players must be fully-paid-up.

As per the MSSA’s rules, being:
- If less than six teams, the championship shall be a Round Robin Championship
- If 6 to 10 teams enter the championship there shall be four rounds as played to the Swiss System
- If 11 or more teams enter the championship there shall be five rounds as played to the Swiss System
Eligibility:
- In order to participate, Registered Players must be fully-paid-up.
Entries:
- Entry is R100.00 per Registered Player.
- Only fully-paid-up Registered Players may participate in this event.
- Entries must be submitted by 22 July 2022.
- To enter, the club must complete the Google Drive document.
- Clubs are to download the entry form, completed the downloaded form, and e-mail it to Mind Sports South Africa.
- Photograhs of participants must be supplied with entry.
Medals:
Medals shall be handed over to winners at the next MSSA LAN that they attend.
MALE:
- PREMIER: Medals shall be awarded to the first three teams.
- UNDER 24: Medals shall be awarded to the first three teams that have not won a Premier medal and which are comprised entirely of students currently registered at any officially recognised University.
- SCHOLARS: Medals shall be awarded to the first three teams of learners currently registered at any officially recognised school, provided they have not received any Premier medals.
FEMALE:
- PREMIER: Medals shall be awarded to the first three teams.
- UNDER 24: Medals shall be awarded to the first three teams that have not won a Premier medal and which are comprised entirely of students currently registered at any officially recognised University.
- SCHOLARS: Medals shall be awarded to the first three teams of learners currently registered at any officially recognised school, provided they have not received any Premier medals.
Colours:
- Protea Colours: Only Players that are selected to represent South Africa in International Championships may earn National Colours if the Protea Colours Board’s criteria are met.
- National Colours: All Players that win all of their Matches at a National Championship will earn National Colours.
- Provincial Colours: All Players that win all of their Matches at a Provincial Championship will earn Provincial Colours. All Players who score within the top 50% in a specific Period at a Provincial Championship, and who also score within the top 50% at a National Championship in the same period and in the same year, will earn Provincial Colours.
General:
- The championship shall be played on: 23 July 2022.
- The first round will start at 10H00. Players shall be given 60 minutes to complete each round.
- The championship is accredited as being of the same status as a provincial championship.
- The championship shall be used for the awarding of provincial colours;
- The championship shall be used for the awarding of medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in Premier, Under 24, and School categories;
- The championship shall be used for the ability to qualify for National Team Squad.
- All medals shall be awarded to the recipients at a MSSA LAN championships.
Umpires:
- Umpires may only be contacted over Skype on the day of competition. Any communication not on the Skype channel shall not be entered into.
Ladder:
- For games to count for the National Ladder, teams must advise the Umpires before the start of each match.

Association of Gaming Operators in Kenya Announces New Regulations

The Association of Gaming Operators in Kenya (AGOK) in partnership with government agencies, regulators and civil society are spearheading a set of proactive initiatives designed to shape the future of the gaming industry and protect innocent Kenyans from addiction to gaming.
In a press release, the Association says nationwide awareness campaigns promoting informed, mindful participation in gaming will be carried out across the country.
Advocacy for tools such as time-out mechanisms, betting and deposit limits will be put in place to ensure a healthy and controlled gaming behaviour among Kenyans.
“The gaming industry in Kenya continues to evolve rapidly, creating opportunities for economic growth, digital innovation, and employment. However, with this growth comes a heightened responsibility to safeguard the welfare of players, particularly young people and vulnerable populations,” the statement by AGOK’s board reads in part.
“AGOK acknowledges the complex challenges associated with gaming, particularly around mental health, addiction prevention, and ethical standards. These are global concerns which members of AGOK take seriously. They are at the forefront of our agenda.”
The Association furthers contends that all its members operate under a “shared code of conduct” rooted in principles of fairness, transparency and social responsibility.
Among meaningful steps it says it has taken to prevent exploitation and minimise harm include putting into place advanced age-verification systems to block underage access, self exclusion tools that provide options for and permanent restrictions to gaming activities and round-the clock toll free helplines that offer confidential mental health and addiction support.
The regulatory measures comes amid calls to regulate the sector following increase in cases of mental health and some suicide cases attributed to betting.
