Silver Strike slot machines return to the Plaza Hotel & Casino
Two refurbished machines offering popular collector coins debut this month
Committed to creating a vintage Vegas experience, the Plaza Hotel & Casino will again be a home for Silver Strike slot machines that dispense specialty collector coins.
As casino floors evolved over the years, Silver Strike slot machines became less prevalent as more high-tech machines were added. Now considered a historic game with only a handful of machines still in existence, the Silver Strike has a growing and dedicated fan base, many of whom are loyal Plaza customers. To meet growing customer demand and further diversify its gaming offerings, the Plaza recently obtained two of the industry’s remaining machines.
The completely refurbished Silver Strike slot machines at the Plaza resemble those of the bygone era, awarding winning players one of four specially designed $10 silver-clad collector coins. Players can decide whether to keep the unique Plaza collector coin, in an effort to win the complete set, or cash it in.

The Mechoopda Indian Tribe has announced that the Mechoopda Economic Gaming Authority (MEGA) Board has made the decision to suspend operations at Mechoopda Casino. The final day of operations will be Friday, January 31, 2025.
The Mechoopda Casino says this decision comes after months of deliberation and efforts to address the various challenges affecting the casinoâs operations.
Dennis Ramirez, Tribal Chairman of the Mechoopda Indian Tribe, said: âSuspending operations at the Casino is a heart-wrenching decision that affects not only our Tribe but also our valued employees, customers, and the surrounding community. While this chapter is closing, our commitment to the Casinoâs long-term vision remains steadfast. For over 25 years, this project has been a cornerstone of our economic development goals, and we will continue to work toward its future reopening.â

Light & Wonder Inc. has announced Simon Johnson as the new CEO of the Companyâs iGaming business. Simon has been with Light & Wonder since 2017 and has been instrumental in driving the international commercial efforts of the Gaming business in his most recent role as Senior Vice President and International Managing Director. As part of his new role, Simon will report directly into Light & Wonder President and CEO Matt Wilson and join the Companyâs Executive Leadership Team.
Las Vegas sports betting venture Circa Sports awarded $20,266,000 in prizes to the winners of its professional football contests, Circa Survivor and Circa Million VI. Highlights of the winnings included the largest Circa Survivor pool in contest history of $14.26 million. This was split equally among C3 Picks, DREAM STAKES, MEATBALL BROTHERS, PUMBAPACK9, TY1823, VODKA JOHNNY, WHATEVERYALLWANT and Whiskey Business. The $1 million Circa Million VI prize went to Team BP.

ESPN and PENN Entertainment announced that 10 additional retail sportsbooks at key PENN properties will be rebranded to âESPN BET Sportsbookâ in early 2025 (subject to all regulatory approvals), increasing the total number of ESPN BET branded sportsbooks at PENN properties to 19. The new ESPN BET locations will serve customers across Pennsylvania, Colorado, Ohio, Iowa, Indiana and West Virginia under PENNâs popular Hollywood and Ameristar Casino brands.
The Ottawa Black Bears announced an extensive partnership agreement with PowerPlay Online Sportsbook and Casino that will see the companyâs logo featured on the clubâs home and away jerseys. In addition to the jersey partnership, PowerPlay will also have branding elements inside the goal crease, behind the bench, on the LED display ring and along the rinkboards for Black Bears home games at Canadian Tire Centre. Bettors in Arizona wagered approximately $791 million on sports in October of 2024, according to a new report by the Arizona Department of Gaming. This represents an approximate 22% increase when compared to October of 2023.
The state collected approximately $2.35 million in privilege fees in the month.
