German Police Raids Gambling Facilities
German police has conducted raids on suspected gambling facilities across western Germany, namely Essen, Bochum, Herne, Witten, Gelsenkirchen, Dortmund, Wuppertal and the county of Mettmann.
The police personnel have seized 34,000 euros, 19 gambling machines and 3 kg of shisha tobacco during the raids. They have ordered shut down of 11 stores for violating Covid-19 restrictions.
The police has not arrested any persons.
Herbert Reul, the interior minister of the western state of North Rhine-Westphalia, said:
“It’s about showing those, who are destabilizing everyday life in these cities, it’s over. Here, the rule of states is valid, not that of the family.”
By ‘family’ he refers collectively to the immigrant families who alleged run the illegal gambling facilities.
