Kochi Comic Con, presented by Maruti Suzuki Arena and powered by Crunchyroll, concluded its inaugural edition at AICC Angamaly, Ernakulam, drawing an enthusiastic crowd of over 20,000 attendees across two days. This marks the first-ever Comic Con to be hosted in Kerala, reflecting the state’s strong reading culture, growing anime communities, and vibrant fandoms.

From February 28, fans of all ages—families, students, creators, and long-standing fandom groups—immersed themselves in artist alleys, panel discussions, gaming arenas, and live stage performances. Attendees enjoyed interactions with internationally acclaimed comic creator Dan Parent, who conducted sessions on storytelling, character creation, and global comic traditions, resonating with audiences familiar with both Malayalam comics and international pop culture.

The Creators’ Corner was a highlight, with established publishers such as Amar Chitra Katha, Balarama Comics, and Alpha Book Publishers, alongside independent creators like Abhijeet Kini, connecting directly with fans through signings and interactive discussions.

“Kerala has always had a strong artistic culture, visible in Kathakali, Theyyam, Koodiyattam, and mural traditions,” said Shefali Johnson, CEO, Comic Con India. “Cosplayers approached their craft seriously, audiences engaged thoughtfully during panels, and the overall warmth made this debut incredibly special for us.”

Akshat Rathee, Co-founder and MD, NODWIN Gaming, added:
“People in Kerala show up wholeheartedly for what they believe in. That same energy carried into Kochi Comic Con. In our very first year here, fans cheered for local favourites like MHR and Joker, attended every session, and explored every zone with real enthusiasm.”

Cosplay Highlights:
Cosplayers brought an impressive range of characters to life, from global favorites such as Denji (Chainsaw Man), Luffy (One Piece), Tanjiro (Demon Slayer), Dr. Strange, Moon Knight, Izuku Midoriya, and Bakugo Katsuki (My Hero Academia), to regional icons including Mayavi, Luttappi, and Minnal Murali. The Kochi Qualifier of the Indian Championship of Cosplay concluded with Indrakshi Haldar, cosplaying as Neverend, True Destiny King from Duel Masters, winning the title and ₹50,000 cash prize.

Gaming and Interactive Experiences:
The NODWIN Gaming Arena featured live gameplay, competitive challenges, VR experiences such as Chandrayan and Best Saber, racing simulators by Logitech, and a Just Dance booth, keeping attendees engaged throughout both days. Maruti Suzuki Arena and Crunchyroll experience zones attracted anime enthusiasts and first-time visitors alike, with exclusive perks for Crunchyroll Power Pass holders, including the immersive Suzume Door installation.

Main Stage Entertainment:
Musical performances from MHR & Joker energized the crowd with interactive singalongs, while Sreenath Bhasi & Crew drew a strong local response. Comedy sets from Gautham Govindan, Nirmal Pillai, Pilot Gomma, and Rohan Joshi, alongside pop-culture acts like Geek Fruit and Purple Line, rounded out the weekend’s entertainment offerings.

Kochi Comic Con’s inaugural edition successfully brought together comic readers, anime fans, gamers, cosplayers, and families, demonstrating that Kerala’s fandom culture balances nostalgia with a global outlook. With strong attendance and enthusiastic engagement, Kochi has firmly established itself on India’s pop-culture calendar, setting the stage for even larger celebrations in the coming years.

Blask data: lottery drives 78% of France’s gambling search demand

blask-data:-lottery-drives-78%-of-france’s-gambling-search-demand

New category-level analysis breaks down non-branded iGaming demand by vertical across France, Brazil, India, Italy and Switzerland.

Blask says lottery-related queries account for around 78% of total gambling search demand in France, outweighing online casino (~10%) and live dealer, betting and poker (each ~4%). The company positions the data as evidence that sports betting is not the primary driver of gambling demand in every market.

Blask said the figures come from non-branded search data and are part of a new category-level analysis feature designed to break down demand across verticals and subcategories within each market. The tool is intended to help operators compare player intent across jurisdictions, including “lottery in France, football betting in Brazil, or culturally driven formats in India.”

Outside France, Blask’s data shows Brazil is more betting-led, with online betting at ~52% of demand, which the company attributes largely to football. Lottery represents ~25%, fantasy sports ~11%, while casino (~6%) and live dealer (~2%) remain smaller segments.

India is described as more evenly distributed, with lottery at ~35% and live dealer at ~29%, and online casino, betting and fantasy each at roughly 10%. In Europe, Italy’s demand is reported as seasonally influenced by football, with fantasy sports leading at ~37%, while Switzerland is presented as casino-first, with online casino at ~38%.

Across the markets analysed, Blask said two themes recur: older categories often remain the biggest, and regulation heavily shapes demand. Where certain verticals are restricted, the company said interest tends to shift into adjacent or offshore segments rather than disappearing.

Insurgence Gaming Company Introduces La Imperia, a Community-First All-Female VALORANT Tournament

La Imperia, a new all-female esports IP by The Insurgence Gaming Company, will make its competitive debut this month with an online VALORANT invitational tournament running from December 19 to 21, 2025. Designed as a visibility-first platform for women competitors, the event brings together four invited Indian teams for a three-day broadcast competition.

La Imperia marks the inaugural tournament by the Insurgence Gaming Company, a newly founded esports company led by Jasper Shabin, who previously served as a poject manager at Skyesports. Positioning itself as a community-first tournament operator, the Insurgence Gaming Company aims to refocus attention on grassroots competition and long-term ecosystem building at a time when entry-level and women-led esports pathways remain limited.

The tournament will be played in VALORANT and feature a round-robin group stage followed by single-elimination playoffs, culminating in a BO5 Grand Final. All matches across the three days will be broadcast live on YouTube, along with additional watch-parties.

The four invited teams competing at La Imperia include Huntrix, Sin Sisters, Plushie Gang and MyKil. All teams feature all-female rosters, aligning with La Imperia’s positioning as a dedicated women’s esports IP.

Broadcast production for the event will be handled by Momentum Gaming, serving as the official Broadcast Partner. The on-air talent lineup includes Star Tania, Nekroz, Odawg, and Hikari Jane, who will guide viewers through the tournament across all three days.

Beyond competition, La Imperia is also placing emphasis on player well-being. Sattva by Pallavi joins the tournament as the Mental Health Partner, integrating conversations around mental health and holistic wellness into the event’s broadcast and content output. The partnership reflects a growing recognition of sustainability and mental resilience within competitive gaming environments.

Speaking on the launch, Jasper Shabin, Founder of The Insurgence Gaming Company, said: “La Imperia is built to be a visibility platform first. There is no shortage of talent in the women’s VALORANT scene, but there are very few consistent stages where that talent can be seen, supported, and taken seriously. With the Insurgence Gaming Company, we want to return focus to grassroots competition and create formats that players can grow with, not just compete in once.”

The tournament carries an INR 15,000 prize pool, with the primary focus placed on competitive exposure, broadcast quality, and long-term ecosystem value rather than one-off incentives.

With its inaugural edition, La Imperia sets the foundation for a new women-led esports property in India—one that combines structured competition, professional broadcast standards, and a community-first philosophy.
