Combined Online Provincial Championships for Schools – 22 April 2023
Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) shall be holding its ever popular annual Online Provincial Championships for schools on 22 April 2023.An important feature of this championship is that it is only open to schools affiliated to MSSA.
Learners who are being homeschooled may also participate, but such homeschool clubs must be affiliated to MSSA.Players will be able to play from venues approved by the school.MSSA’s Online Provincial Championships for schools offers local players the opportunity to qualify for selection to the national squad and for the Protea Team should they meet the criteria.The championship shall be held on 22 April 2023.

Players are to acquaint themselves with the rules apropos substitutes and loadshedding.
Tournament Structure:
As per the MSSA’s rules, being:
- If less than six teams, the championship shall be a Round Robin Championship
- If 6 to 10 teams enter the championship there shall be four rounds as played to the Swiss System
- If 11 or more teams enter the championship there shall be five rounds as played to the Swiss System
Eligibility:
- Any learner currently registered for primary or secondary studies may enter.
Entry fee:
- Entry is R50.00 per Registered Player.
- Only fully-paid-up Registered Players may participate in this event.
Entries:
- Entries need to be submitted on or before midnight on 21 April 2023.
- The entry form may be downloaded and all all entries must be made of Excel from the official website and submitted to [email protected]
- Only an Educator at the school may submit an entry.
- A photograph of each learner must accompany the entry.
Medals:
Medals shall be awarded to the first three gamers for both men and women (per province) in the following categories:
- MALE: The top three places (1st, 2nd, and 3rd)).
- FEMALE: The top three places (1st, 2nd, and 3rd))
Please note that the medals shall be awarded to the players at the next LAN championship in which such team/player enters and participates.
Colours:
- School Provincial Colours: All Players that win all of their Matches at a Provincial Championship will earn School Provincial Colours. All Players who score within the top 50% in a specific Period at a any two (or more) Provincial Championships, and who also score within the top 50% at a National Championship in the same period and in the same year, will earn School Provincial Colours.
When and Where:
- 22 April 2023
- The first round will start at 10H00. Players shall be given 60 minutes to complete each round.
- Players must all be on-line at 9H00.
The championship is accredited as being of the same status as a provincial championship. This means that the championship shall be used for the following:
- The awarding of school provincial colours;
- The awarding of medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places for both men and women;
- The ability to qualify for National Team Trials.
- As usual Trials shall be done at a LAN venue, and the team that can best represent South Africa shall then be selected.
- All medals shall be awarded to the recipients at a MSSA LAN championships.
Shout casting:
- The MSSA shall decide who may shout-cast the games.

Play’n GO announces network-wide US release of hit title Colt Lightning Firestorm
Eagerly anticipated release now confirmed following a highly successful exclusivity period with Rush Street Interactive
Play’n GO has today announced the official US release of its hit title Colt Lightning Firestorm, following a three-week period of exclusivity with Rush Street Interactive brands BetRivers and SugarHouse.
Colt Lightning Firestorm was released in Europe and other jurisdictions in May 2024, and its release in the US comes with much fanfare following the game’s rave reviews in its short exclusivity period. The game is a sequel to the wildly popular Colt Lightning game which was released early last year, and indications at this stage suggest that this sequel may prove even more successful.
This announcement sees Colt Lightning Firestorm available to players in each state and operator with whom Play’n GO is licensed. Play’n GO first entered the online casino market in the US in 2022, and has reiterated its commitment to becoming active in every regulated market around the world.

BLAST to Bring Top-Tier Esports Events to Singapore in 2024 and 2025
Esports entertainment company BLAST has announced plans to host two popular esports events in Singapore in 2024 and 2025.
BLAST will bring both world-class Counter-Strike and Dota 2 tournaments to the heart of Southeast Asia, marking a major step in Singapore’s emergence as an esports and gaming hub. Supported by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), these high-profile events will bring the world’s best esports teams and players from all across the world to compete in Singapore.
BLAST has teamed up with AEG Presents Asia, one of the world’s largest live entertainment entities to bring these events to Singapore. The partnership forms part of BLAST’s ambition to create the best esports experiences by working closely with premier destinations and the biggest and best live entertainment partners.
More than half of global esports views (57%) are estimated to come from the Asia Pacific region, 47% more than any other region in the world with the global market valued at $1.6 billion.
By bringing the top-tier Counter-Strike and Dota 2 tournaments to Singapore, BLAST aims
to attract global esports talent, foster local growth, and elevate Singapore’s status as a destination for world-class esports entertainment.

The World Final 2024 will take place from 30th October – 3rd November and will be the first BLAST event to take place in Singapore, followed by the BLAST Dota Slam in 2025. The World Final will be the biggest Counter-Strike event to take place in Singapore, where the world’s best eight Counter-Strike teams will compete for a massive prize pool of $1,000,000 and the chance to claim bragging rights as the best team around.
Qualified World Final teams: NAVI, Team Spirit, Team Vitality, FaZe Clan and G2 Esports.
