Pioneering data-driven service provider joins forces with legendary German betting brand to add advanced AI and ML-powered solutions to its sports betting platform
Golden Whale, the market-leading provider of AI and ML-driven solutions for the iGaming industry, has announced it has formed an exciting new partnership with merkurbets.de that will power up the legendary brand’s engagement and personalisation options.
As the official sports betting partner of Bundesliga clubs RB Leipzig and 1. FC Köln as well as a host of other famous teams in Germany’s second division such as FC Schalke 04 and DSC Arminia Bielefeld, merkurbets.de is already one of the country’s best-known online sportsbooks – and the company will now be able to draw on Golden Whale’s advanced technology to provide an even more compelling experience for its customers.
By integrating Golden Whale’s Foundation and the semi-automated machine learning system, LOOPs, into its platform architecture, merkurbets.de will gain access to data-driven insights that can be used to generate real-time recommendations for optimising many areas of the business.
With this empowering merkurbets.de to create a more personalised player experience that will boost engagement, increase retention and – ultimately – improve the operator’s bottom line, both parties are already looking forward to the many possibilities that the new partnership will provide.
Eberhard Dürrschmid, Chief Executive Officer at Golden Whale, said: “Partnering with one of Germany’s best-known online betting brands is testament to the waves Golden Whale is making in the iGaming industry and we’re really looking forward to working with merkurbets.de to find out how our advanced AI and ML-driven solutions can help cement their position as a market leader.”
Christian Gruber, Chief Operation Officer at merkurbets.de, said: “With AI optimisation and data-driven personalisation being important parts of all operators’ player engagement toolkits, we’re delighted to be working with one of the industry’s leading exponents in Golden Whale and can’t wait to see how their tech can help us provide an even better experience for our customers.”

GGL Warns: Illegal Online Gambling Puts Young People in Particular at High Risk of Addiction

Reading Time: < 1 minute
Illegal gambling providers target their online offerings specifically at German players. However, without age controls, stake and deposit limits or blocking systems, the risk of gambling addiction can increase – especially among young people. On the occasion of the annual Gambling Addiction Action Day on September 24, 2025, the Joint Gambling Authority of the German States (GGL) issued a strong warning against such illegal offerings.
“Anyone who plays illegally plays without protection. Illegal platforms do not offer effective player protection mechanisms. Anyone who plays there runs a significant risk of developing a gambling addiction,” Ronald Benter, CEO of GGL, said.
Preventing gambling addiction is an important part of the GGL’s work. The authority focuses on three key aspects:
Information about risks and protective mechanisms,
Combating illegal offers that pose particular risks,
Control of legal providers to ensure that all player protection regulations are adhered to.
The task of the GGL is to consistently enforce the legal requirements of the State Treaty on Gambling with regard to player protection for permitted providers.
“Sports betting is a growing market; consistent oversight of legal providers, along with combating illegal betting services, is important to protect players and ensure legal certainty in the market,” said Sebastian Buchholz, head of the “Licensing and Supervision of Legal Gambling” department at GGL.
Gambling addiction develops gradually. Anyone who notices warning signs such as increasing stakes or social withdrawal should seek help early.
