BetBlocker and Responsible Online Gaming Association Partner to Deliver Free Blocking Software for the United States
US charity BetBlocker and the Responsible Online Gaming Association (ROGA), an independent association representing 90% of the legal U.S. sports betting industry, are today announcing a partnership to ensure that any American can access free, anonymous to use blocking software.
BetBlocker provides free, anonymous to use, blocking software allowing users to manage their access to online gambling services. The charity has supported over a 150k active users 2025, including over 10k US users.
Duncan Garvie, Founder of BetBlocker, offered this comment on the partnership:
âThe single most effective way for BetBlocker to reach the audience that stand to benefit from our tool is via partnerships with the industry. ROGA represents a coordinated by the U.S. industry to improve responsible gaming standards throughout the sector. Having their backing for the BetBlocker project is a significant step forward for our organisation and will ensure that people who want support to structure where and when they can play online will be able to do so anonymously and for free.â
ROGA was established to raise the standard for responsible online gaming through collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to evidence-based practices,â said Dr. Jennifer Shatley, Executive Director of ROGA. âMaking resources like BetBlocker more visible and accessible is one way we put that mission into action. Weâre equipping individuals with practical tools that support their decisions and well-being.â
BetBlockerâs app is available on Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, Linux and Fire OS and can be set-up in under two minutes. The service is committed to reducing barriers to access to blocking software to improve engagement with this effective gaming management tool. ROGAâs commitment to viewing players as individuals and customizing support to their needsâ aligns perfectly with the soon to be launched Scheduling feature that BetBlocker will provide, supporting players to create profiles to ensures their block is on when they need it.
This collaboration represents a conscious commitment by both organizations to ensure that players who need support to manage their engagement with online gaming are supported with a diverse spectrum of available support options that can be tailored to the personâs individual needs.

BetBlocker Layers Harm Minimisation Support Internationally with New Signposting Feature
Reading Time: < 1 minute
As part of Safer Gambling Week, harm prevention charity BetBlocker today announces the launch of its improved app dashboard.
BetBlocker, which provides blocking software to help people manage or restrict their access to online gambling services, is unique in adopting a charitable model for this type of support, and facilitating users accessing protection both free of charge and anonymously.
The improved dashboard will include signposting for other types of support â a national gambling support phone number, a national gambling self-exclusion register, and a national information resource â for almost 50 countries.
BetBlockerâs Founder and Managing Trustee, Duncan Garvie made the following comments on this upgrade:
âBlocking software is a fantastic tool to support harm minimisation efforts. But it is just one tool, not a complete solution in its own right. Far more significant reductions in harm can be achieved where different types of support are used in conjunction with each other.
The UK has previously led the way in this area with the TalkBanStop campaign. We want to roll out a similar approach to the layering of support in as many countries as possible. So BetBlocker is looking to lead by example, signposting relevant support for our hundreds of thousands of users, wherever appropriate and relevant services exist.â
The new dashboard will also include information on academic research that BetBlocker users can participate in and support. Garvie added:
âThe stigma associated with gambling harm can make engaging participants to support crucial research challenging. BetBlockerâs users are exactly the kind of audience that can help researchers better understand how to most effectively reduce harm. BetBlocker is looking to support academic research teams to reach the type of participants that help them expand our understanding of how people interact with gambling.â

Coolbet Reaffirms Commitment to Responsible Gaming with Donation to BetBlocker
Reading Time: 2 minutes
Coolbet is proud to announce a renewed donation to BetBlocker, a leading responsible gaming charity offering free access-control tools to players worldwide. This marks the second time Coolbet has supported the organisationâs mission to help individuals manage their gambling habits and play responsibly.
Two years ago, Coolbetâs contribution and volunteer efforts enabled BetBlocker to launch its app and website in Spanish, expanding accessibility to millions of users across Latin America and other Spanish-speaking regions. The renewed donation underlines Coolbetâs ongoing commitment to ensuring such vital tools remain free and available to all.
âResponsible gaming has always been a cornerstone of who we are,â said Fjodor Rauten, Responsible Gaming Manager at Coolbet. âWe strongly believe that tools like BetBlocker must remain free for anyone who needs them. By supporting BetBlocker again, weâre helping ensure that players everywhere have access to the help they might need, without barriers.â
BetBlockerâs free software allows users to self-restrict access to online gambling sites and apps for periods of their choice. Its unique Scheduler feature enables users to block access during moments of increased vulnerability, such as weekends, holidays, or paydays.
Coolbetâs renewed donation will help BetBlocker continue expanding its reach, maintaining multilingual support, and improving its technology for global users. The partnership aligns closely with Coolbetâs guiding principle: âStay Cool. Bet Responsibly.â
âLast week, BetBlocker passed a quarter of a million active users in 2025,â said Duncan Garvie, Founder and Trustee of BetBlocker. âThat is an astronomical level of uptake. We couldnât deliver support to so many people, all over the world, without socially conscientious operators like Coolbet. Their ongoing contribution demonstrates genuine commitment to player protection and ensures that essential tools remain accessible to those who need them most.â
Coolbet first partnered with BetBlocker in 2023, contributing financially and through staff-led volunteer translations that made the service available in Spanish. The collaboration has since been recognised as a milestone in responsible gaming accessibility for Spanish-speaking audiences worldwide.

BetBlocker announces unique research collaboration with UNLV IGI.
Â
BetBlocker is delighted to announce that it has made a donation to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in support of the International Gaming Instituteâs (IGI) research program. This contribution will help advance academic research on gambling blocking software and its users. This marks a pioneering collaboration between a blocking software provider and an internationally renowned academic institute specialising in gambling research. Both organizations envision this research generating transformative insights that will help inform evidence-based policies, enhance player protection measures, and contribute to the broader public good.
Pedro Romero, Chief of SG Partnerships at BetBlocker enthused: âWe are very happy to collaborate with UNLV IGI and Dr. Ghaharianâs research team on this project. This is our first research collaboration in the U.S., and we are delighted to support a study that provides genuine insights into the role of free and anonymous blocking software in harm prevention and minimisation. Helping with this research is in line with our values of enhancing safer gambling tools and reducing gambling-related harm. In a sector where we often see reports commissioned to research consultancy companies at great expense to validate commercial products, we believe in supporting independent research: critical, objective, peer-reviewed, and academically rigorous.â
Director of Research at the International Gaming Institute, Kasra Ghaharian, PhD commented: âGaining a better understanding of individuals who use gambling blocking software is critical, as there is little to no published research on this population,â said Kasra Ghaharian, Director of Research at IGI. â We are truly grateful to BetBlocker for their support, which will help advance research in this area while also providing valuable opportunities for graduate students to develop their skills. I canât wait for us to share the insights from this important work, which will be valuable to operators, policymakers, and the publicâ.
When asked about his hopes for the research project, Founder and Trustee of BetBlocker, Duncan Garvie stated: âFor the first 4 years of the project, I delivered the user technical support for BetBlocker. Iâve interacted with thousands of people using the tool and I know how much of a difference it has made to a huge number of lives. But that type of anecdotal validation isnât enough in this day and age. Effectiveness has to be evidenced and weâre very supportive of academic efforts to gather evidence to examine how the availability of a free, anonymous blocking software improves outcomes for user.â
