These sportsbooks received licensing from the New York State Gambling Commission (NYSGC) after a long period following the legalizing bill passed online sports betting for NY in November. The logistics of New York State’s unique online sports betting laws meant that sportsbooks needed some time to meet regulatory standards. That struggle is in the past, and online sports betting is ready to write its first chapter in the Empire State.

MediaTroopers CEO Shmulik Segal said: “MediaTroopers has been operating in nearly every US state where online gambling is legal, including New York’s neighbouring states such as Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and others. When asked about the future potential of the state, Segal added: “There are five more sportsbooks with provisional licenses from the NYSGC. These sportsbooks are working towards meeting the licensing requirements, and when this happens, the New York sports betting market could grow exponentially.”

New York is the fourth most populous state in the US, and many experts anticipate it to become one of the biggest online sports betting states in the coming years. MediaTroopers serves most of the top brands in the industry and hopes to capitalize on this opportunity to bring quality content to a new part of the US. When asked about his expectations for this season, Segal said: “MediaTroopers has seen launches of many states, but what’s the most amazing thing about this launch is the timing, right ahead of the NFL playoffs and Super Bowl. Effective immediately, the Company is implementing substantial cost reductions, including a significant workforce reduction and reduced operating expenditures. The Company has paused player activity on its platform and is facilitating player withdrawals in the ordinary course.

The Company is assessing a range of potential alternatives, which may include asset-level transactions, corporate transactions, restructuring initiatives or other strategic outcomes.

Given the Company’s reduced operating scale and the ongoing evaluation process, there can be no assurance that any strategic alternative will be completed or that operations will continue in their current form.
