Ownership behind Alliance Entertainment buys GameFly; Games inventory to see major boost, along with new product and service rollouts
The ownership group behind Alliance Entertainment, the world leader in music, movie, video game, and consumer products distribution, has purchased GameFly, the powerhouse in video game disc rentals. This new partnership will allow GameFly to provide customers with an expanded catalogue of gaming products for sale, as well as new enhancements to GameFly’s game subscription service and a large expansion of new and catalog games available to rent.
“We’re intensely focused on listening to what our customers are telling us, and then finding ways to give them what they are asking for” said Jeff Walker, Co-owner and CEO of both Alliance Entertainment and GameFly. “Alliance is the largest distributor of physical media in the US, and we’re using our expertise with GameFly’s nearly 20 years of experience in subscription game rentals to imagine new offerings that previously were not doable.” GameFly will continue to operate independently from Alliance, yet will benefit from its extensive infrastructure.
New Products and New Enhancements to Game Rentals
GameFly users are now able to purchase new games, movies, game controllers and headsets, consoles and pop culture collectibles from Funko and other brands via GameFly.
GameFly’s well-known console game rental service, still going strong after nearly twenty years, will soon be getting some upgrades of its own, according to Tim Hinsley, President of GameFly: “A wider catalog of gamer-centric products is just the beginning of the increase in value we want to bring GameFly customers. Over the coming months, we’re going to be making some big announcements about fresh changes to our subscriptions that we think will make console gamers very happy. We can’t wait to show them what we’ve been working on.”
GameFly Offers Unique Value In the Console Gaming Market
GameFly is the leading video game subscription service in the US, the only one that offers gamers a way to get a new release game disc on PS4, XBOX One, Nintendo Switch and more, shipped for free to their door, for one flat monthly fee.
“There are more online and streaming subscription options today than ever, but their game selection is quite limited – We’re still the only service that lets you get any brand new game disc on any major console for as little as 54 cents a day,” says Chris Anderson, VP of Product at GameFly. “With the top new games available on release day, a back catalog of over 8,000 games, and the option to keep your game at some of the lowest prices anywhere, GameFly helps gamers stretch their gaming dollars farther.”
