Sweden urged to rethink restrictions as searches for ‘unlicensed casino’ surges 700%

New BonusFinder data shows 54 unlicensed operators already targeting Sweden and warns new proposals will put players at greater risk

BonusFinder.com has urged the Swedish government to reconsider its proposals to introduce further restrictions on online gambling as a result of the pandemic or risk long-term consequences of a sharp increase in black market activity.

In a formal response to a consultation on the government’s proposals, BonusFinder warned that introducing stricter measures would lead to a long-lasting diversion of players to unlicensed sites and pose a greater risk to Swedish consumers, legal licensees and the licensed market in the future.

BonusFinder has identified more than 54 unlicensed sites targeting Sweden compared to the 65 licensed operators, with the majority offering online casino. The research conducted by using Google Trends also found the number of searches for unlicensed casino brands targeting Sweden to have risen by 305% in the last 12 months.

The study also discovered that in the last 12 months searches for ‘casino utan licens’ (and other similar terms), saw a 710% growth compared to a 173% increase in ‘online casino’.

In March this year, initial BonusFinder research found that almost a third of Swedish online casino players are searching online for ‘unlicensed casinos’, with growing numbers turning to black-market brands due to the market’s restrictive gaming regulations, introduced in January 2019.

The Swedish government’s new plans include the introduction of stricter bonus limits of SEK100 (€8), as well as mandatory weekly deposit limits of SEK5,000 (€458) that would be in place for an initial six-month period from June 1.

Fintan Costello, Managing Director, Bonusfinder.com, said: “We understand the Swedish government has put forward its proposals with the best intentions to protect its citizens, but as our research has shown, the existing restrictive measures have resulted in a large number of players turning to unlicensed operators outside of the legal framework and without any protection. Channelisation rates are falling and unlicensed brands are booming.

“Our message to the government is to seriously reconsider its proposals. More stringent measures would only serve to further fuel the existing black market. The consequences of these actions would be felt for a long period of time as players lost to the illegal offering would not easily return to regulated sites once measures are lifted.”

Endorphina Brings the Roach Challenge to LinkedIn

Ahead of ICE Barcelona, iGaming software company Endorphina has initiated a viral LinkedIn campaign that swiftly attracted the industry’s interest. The Roach Challenge, a creativity initiative powered by AI, naturally inundated LinkedIn timelines with cockroach personas of iGaming experts without any paid advertising.
The challenge encourages participants to generate an AI image depicting themselves as a cockroach and post it on LinkedIn, tagging Endorphina and including the hashtag #RoachChallenge. Although seemingly strange at first, the idea directly embodies Endorphina’s forthcoming ICE booth design and the release of its new slot game, Cockroach Fortune.
The campaign expands on Endorphina’s “house of roaches” idea, using a bold, playful, and somewhat chaotic visual style that deliberately disregards conventional exhibition marketing in favor of distinctiveness, humor, and lasting impact.

100% Organic Results in the First 24 Hours:

  • 8,066 impressions (+328% organically)
  • 2,704 reached users (+357% organically)
  • 747 clicks (+104%)
  • 189 reactions (+373%)
  • 12 comments (+140%)
  • 6 reposts (+200%)
  • 450+ organic interactions, with a 9% CTR

Within the initial day, over 100 iGaming experts, featuring delegates from operators, suppliers, affiliates, and B2B platforms, participated in the challenge, transforming it into a community-focused industry event instead of a solely brand-driven initiative.

The Roach Challenge is active until January 21 at 14:00, the last day of ICE Barcelona. Two winners named Mr. Roach and Mrs. Roach will each get an iPad mini, delivered either on-site or in the EU.

Endorphina’s team initiated the trend early by posting their AI-created cockroach versions, sparking a surge of user-generated content and natural reposts throughout the LinkedIn iGaming community.

Through complete reliance on organic engagement and community involvement, Endorphina illustrates how bold creativity can create significant visibility and dialogue even prior to the exhibition’s opening.

Pragmatic Play, a leading provider of iGaming content, has launched Sugar Rush Super Scatter, the latest installment in its multi-award-winning candy-themed slots series.

This exciting new release offers players the chance to win up to 50,000x their stake, adding even more sweetness to the beloved franchise.

Following the success of the original Sugar Rush and Sugar Rush 1000, this newest release introduces the Super Scatter feature, adding high-volatility thrills to the popular 7×7 grid. Players collect clusters of 5–15+ matching sweet symbols to score base game wins up to 150x, while the tumbling feature and multiplier spots return, applying multipliers from 2x up to a staggering 1,024x on consecutive tumbles.

The Super Scatter bonus game is the highlight, awarding instant cash prizes when one to four special symbols land on a triggering spin. Sticky marked spots and multipliers remain active during the feature, with 3–7 additional scatters retriggering 10–30 extra spins, significantly boosting winning potential.

Select markets also enjoy three ante bet options and two bonus buys, which guarantee multipliers across the grid, ensuring players can maximize their chances of landing massive wins.

Sugar Rush Super Scatter follows Pragmatic Play’s proven formula for fan-favorite slots enhanced with Super Scatter mechanics, joining previous hits such as Gates of Olympus Super Scatter, Sweet Bonanza Super Scatter, and Starlight Princess Super Scatter.

Irina Cornides, Chief Operating Officer at Pragmatic Play, said: “Sugar Rush Super Scatter takes one of our most successful titles and sweetens it further with a 50,000x max win. The release highlights our commitment to creating diverse games designed for long-term player engagement and strong commercial impact.”

With its colorful candy graphics, high-energy gameplay, and record-breaking multipliers, Sugar Rush Super Scatter is poised to be one of the hottest Pragmatic Play slots of 2026.
