The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has recently established a data-sharing agreement with the International Cricket Council (ICC). The ICC is the international governing body of cricket and is made up of over 100 national governing bodies from around the world. The ICC governs and administrates the sport, stages ICC global events, oversees playing regulations and through the Integrity Unit coordinates action against corruption and match fixing. This agreement will facilitate the sharing of information between the two parties, in fulfilment of the requirements at law.

The MGA’s Sports Integrity Manager, Antonio Zerafa stated that, “This data sharing agreement with the ICC represents the Authority’s on-going commitment of combatting match-fixing and other types of manipulation in sports. In fact, this agreement will allow the MGA and the ICC to share crucial data related to the process of detecting, preventing and investigating activities related to manipulation of sports competitions.”

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has officially recognized Asensi Technologies as a System and Compliance Audit Service Provider, thereby granting the company authorization to conduct technical audits (System Audits) and regulatory compliance reviews (Compliance Audits) on online gaming systems operating under Maltese jurisdiction.

Following a rigorous accreditation process, Asensi Technologies expands its international presence and demonstrates its ability to meet the demands of a sector that is constantly growing and evolving.

“Malta, one of the leading international hubs for the online gaming industry, represents a strategic step in the company’s global expansion,” states Teté Asensi, CEO of the company.

“This recognition is particularly gratifying as it strengthens our position as a specialized laboratory for the evaluation and certification of online gaming systems in a key market such as Malta, and reflects further confidence in our work,” she adds.

Since its accreditation in 2017 by the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ) as an authorized laboratory in Spain, Asensi Technologies has maintained a strong commitment to technical excellence and regulatory compliance, earning recognition on numerous occasions as one of the best service providers in the sector within the country.

Over the past year, the company has embarked on an international expansion process, achieving official accreditation from MINCETUR to operate in Peru, recognition from the Kahnawake Gaming Commission in Kahnawake, and now this milestone in Malta, where it expects to replicate the positive results already recorded in the three jurisdictions where it currently operates.

CEO Teté Asensi highlights the significance of obtaining these accreditations and international recognition for a company like Asensi Technologies: “We are extremely proud of this new achievement. We are a boutique laboratory undergoing rapid expansion thanks to a highly qualified and committed team capable of offering a close and personalized approach to our clients, accompanying them throughout their processes with tailored solutions that meet their needs. This milestone reflects and acknowledges all our effort and dedication,” she concludes.

The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) is publishing the findings of a thematic review examining betting activity on Maltese football competitions

Announced in the Regulatory Oversight Supervisory Engagement Efforts for 2025, the review analyses data submitted by B2C Type 2 licensees covering the 2023–2024 football season. It explores wagering trends, player demographics and the integrity measures in place across the market.

Findings show that betting on Maltese football remains moderate in size, with most activity centred on mainstream markets such as match winner and total goals. Participation by Maltese bettors is limited and primarily involves young men living in urban areas. Maltese football also attracts a modest level of international betting interest, though volumes remain small compared to larger competitions.

The review highlights that licensees have implemented integrity safeguards, including the monitoring of suspicious activity and collaboration with the Authority and sports governing bodies. These measures reflect the sector’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a fair and transparent betting environment.

The Authority remains dedicated to working closely with licensees and stakeholders to enhance cooperation, reinforce integrity measures and uphold trust in Maltese sport and the wider betting landscape.

As part of its ongoing commitment to player protection, the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has announced the launch of an online Self-Assessment Tool, available in both English and Maltese, designed to help individuals reflect on their gambling habits and behaviour.

Developed in close collaboration with several key local organisations – namely Sedqa, Caritas Malta, the OASI Foundation and the Responsible Gaming Foundation – the tool is completely anonymous, free to use and accessible to all.

Rooted in the Problem Gambling Severity Index – a widely recognised, evidence-based screening tool – the questionnaire comprises nine straightforward questions. These aim to assess the extent of an individual’s gambling behaviour while also considering broader social and environmental influences.

The tool encourages self-reflection in an accessible way, helping players consider whether they may benefit from reaching out for professional guidance. Should a user’s results indicate the need for further support, they will be directed to one of the participating organisations, each of which serves as a trusted point of contact for advice and care. Information is also available on safer gambling tools, such as setting limits or using global bet-blocking tools.

This initiative represents a collaborative, people-first approach to player protection, working alongside local entities in Malta and Gozo to ensure that anyone experiencing gambling-related harm is not only informed but also supported.

The MGA encourages players to use the tool regularly as a way to monitor changes in their gambling behaviour over time and stay mindful of any change that may occur.
