GLMS Flags 157 Matches for Suspicious Activity in 2019

The Global Lottery Management System (GLMS) has revealed that it flagged 157 matches for potentially suspicious activity in 2019.
The majority of alerts from these matches were sent to football partners FIFA and UEFA (alerts for 98 matches). The rest of the alerts were sent to the International Olympic Committee, Tennis Integrity Unit, Esports Integrity Commission, law enforcement authorities, local gaming authorities or regulators.
Meanwhile, the members of GLMS received 787 alerts over irregularities to betting patterns, 570 of which were recorded in Europe, with 88 in Asia and 65 in South America. Football accounted for 450 of the 570 alerts in Europe.
In his message to partners and members, GLMS President Ludovico Calvi wrote:
âLooking back to the year 2019, we are proud to have so many achievements added to our track record. The year saw growth in the GLMS membership base, new key partnerships, the organization of an important educational event in Lausanne, as well as a General Assembly during which we had the opportunity to update our members on the progress of our work.
âWe also further enhanced our communication channels, notably via the creation of a new website, which we invite you to regularly visit at www.glms-sport.org. In 2019, we were also excited to see the long-awaited Council of Europe Convention on Sport Competition Manipulations come into force.
âAs you will read from our report, we were quite operationally active throughout the year, flagging early warning signs based on evidence and data related to sporting events across countless categories to our partners; as well as collaborating and delivering critical analysis and intelligence in our reports to our GLMS stakeholders, upon request.
âAs we look ahead to 2020, we will continue in our effort to expand our global membership base. We are also planning to open a new Integrity Hub in Canada, following Hong Kong to further consolidate the process of globalization of GLMS targeting North American jurisdictions.â

EGBA Announces Dates for This Yearâs European Safer Gambling Week

Â
The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA) has announced that this yearâs European Safer Gambling Week will take place from November 17 to 23.
European Safer Gambling Week is an annual collaborative initiative to raise awareness about safer gambling in Europe and foster a strong culture of player protection. Organised by EGBA, the initiative serves as a platform to inform citizens about safer gambling and promote information and best practice-sharing between stakeholders across Europeâs gambling sector, including operators, regulators, technology providers, support organisations and experts-by-experience.
This year will be the fifth edition of the initiative and follows the unprecedented success of 2024, which saw 195 partners participate in a social media campaign across 26 countries reaching 3.1 million social media users with important safer gambling messages. There were also 20 events held during the week that gathered 3000 attendees.
Building upon this momentum, the 2025 edition will be underpinned by a social media campaign and an array of insightful workshops. These will aim to raise awareness about safer gambling, share best practices and tips, signpost crucial resources and services, and facilitate meaningful discussions about the latest developments in regulation and research.
Maarten Haijer, Secretary General of EGBA, said: âWeâre pleased to announce the dates for European Safer Gambling Week 2025 and are excited to build on the exceptional momentum of last yearâs campaign. The initiative has become Europeâs leading platform for safer gambling awareness and last year brought together a record coalition of 195 partners across 26 countries to promote player protection. This is a shared commitment and we invite organisations across the industry to join us for this yearâs edition and help us foster a strong culture of safe and sustainable gambling in Europe.â
