BetBlocker Layers Harm Minimisation Support Internationally with New Signposting FeatureReading Time: < 1 minute

As part of Safer Gambling Week, harm prevention charity BetBlocker today announces the launch of its improved app dashboard.

BetBlocker, which provides blocking software to help people manage or restrict their access to online gambling services, is unique in adopting a charitable model for this type of support, and facilitating users accessing protection both free of charge and anonymously.

The improved dashboard will include signposting for other types of support – a national gambling support phone number, a national gambling self-exclusion register, and a national information resource – for almost 50 countries.

BetBlocker’s Founder and Managing Trustee, Duncan Garvie made the following comments on this upgrade:

“Blocking software is a fantastic tool to support harm minimisation efforts. But it is just one tool, not a complete solution in its own right. Far more significant reductions in harm can be achieved where different types of support are used in conjunction with each other.

The UK has previously led the way in this area with the TalkBanStop campaign. We want to roll out a similar approach to the layering of support in as many countries as possible. So BetBlocker is looking to lead by example, signposting relevant support for our hundreds of thousands of users, wherever appropriate and relevant services exist.”

The new dashboard will also include information on academic research that BetBlocker users can participate in and support. Garvie added:

“The stigma associated with gambling harm can make engaging participants to support crucial research challenging. BetBlocker’s users are exactly the kind of audience that can help researchers better understand how to most effectively reduce harm. BetBlocker is looking to support academic research teams to reach the type of participants that help them expand our understanding of how people interact with gambling.”

BetBlocker adds Syrian Arabic language support for gambling harm prevention

The charity says the rollout targets displaced Syrian communities across Europe as it works toward a partnership with a European regulatory agency.

Gambling harm prevention charity BetBlocker said today it has expanded its service to include support for Syrian Arabic speakers, aiming to improve access for displaced Syrian communities living across Europe.

The organisation said years of conflict have led to large Syrian diaspora communities across neighbouring countries and many European nations. BetBlocker added that immigrant communities can face higher risk of gambling harm, with religious, social, cultural and linguistic barriers reducing engagement with support services.

BetBlocker said the Syrian Arabic rollout was prioritised as part of work towards a partnership with a European regulatory agency, positioning it to support diaspora Syrian communities across Europe.

Founder and Trustee for BetBlocker, Duncan Garvie, said: “I’m always really happy when BetBlocker can line-up priorities for where our work for mature markets also facilitates us extending protections to populations that are under served. Our project to deliver Ukrainian as apart of the Improving Outcomes for Minority Communities fund via GambleAware in the UK was a great example of a project that met the needs of the UK funding system, while concurrently extending the support we could offer to an entirely new project.

This project offers similar opportunities. Where extending our support to Syrian Arabic both allows us to submit a more competitive tender to an EU regulator, whilst simultaneously expanding our support to a country/population that currently has very limited options for people experiencing gambling harm.

BetBlocker’s uptake in Syria is climbing rapidly at the moment, and this new launch should ensure that far more people who need support can access it.”

BetBlocker partners with Linka pomoci pre problémy s hraním to strengthen gambling support across Slovakia

A collaborative initiative involving the national gambling helpline Linka pomoci pre problémy s hraním and BetBlocker, the charity providing free, anonymous gambling blocking software, will extend its support to include the Slovak language.

The Slovakian population already exhibits a high level of engagement. BetBlocker has assisted numerous Slovakian users this year and is set to nearly double the number of users in Slovakia during the current year.

In recent years, Slovakia has experienced a notable increase in the demand for assistance related to gambling-related harm, as observed in numerous countries. In July 2025, the Slovak national self-exclusion registry (RVO) exceeded 20k signed-up users for the first time, and a report released by the Institute of Gambling Regulation in Slovakia (IPRHH) in August 2025 underscored rising worries that up to 300k Slovakians were using illegal gambling operators, with 13.1% of survey participants indicating they did this to bypass an RVO exclusion.

BetBlocker’s app-driven support effectively blocks both the legal and illegal gambling markets, assisting users in more firmly implementing their gambling restrictions.

Founder and Trustee for BetBlocker, Duncan Garvie, offered these comments: “We are really pleased to cooperate with Linka pomoci pre problémy s hraním to expand our support to Slovakia. Cooperating with local stakeholders to help expand awareness of the help that BetBlocker offers is the single most effective approach to reaching the audience that would benefit from BetBlocker. National support organisations have a understanding of their community and how to effectively communicate support messaging that BetBlocker’s small team could not hope to achieve independently.

BetBlocker is already experiencing rapidly growing uptake of support in Slovakia. This collaboration will supercharge that growth, ensuring that thousands of additional people, and their families and loved ones, have an additional option when it comes to finding help.

BetBlocker would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to Linka pomoci pre problémy s hraním for helping us become more effective communicators to people experiencing gambling harm in Slovakia.”

Erik Kovac, a psychologist of Slovak gambling hotline Linka pomoci pre problémy s hraním, added the following: “BetBlocker is one of the standard first-aid tools we recommend for people who call our helpline and want to limit their online gambling. It is a great project and we are grateful for this collaboration.”

New Turkish-language tool from BetBlocker extends service to 90 million additional people

Gambling harm prevention charity BetBlocker today reveals the extension of their award-winning assistance into Turkish.

In 2025, BetBlocker saw a tremendous increase in support, with more than three hundred thousand individual users initiating a block throughout the year. This significant level of engagement has been made possible by the diverse array of languages into which the charity has translated its assistance.

Yesilay, the main Turkish support service, reports that requests for help with gambling are now surpassing those for alcohol, drugs, or tobacco, alongside significant uptake and harm among youth, making the launch of Turkish language support timely and relevant.

Founder and Trustee for BetBlocker, Duncan Garvie, offered these comments: “BetBlocker is genuinely excited to roll out our second language expansion of 2026.

We’ve experienced phenomenal uptake of the service over the last 12 months and figures hare steadily rising. One of the biggest drivers of that growth has been improving the accessibility of our support by meeting users where they are and offering support in the language that they’re most comfortable accessing in.

Alongside Turkey itself, there are substantial Turkish speaking communities across Europe, the Middle East and North America. It is our hope that this evolution of BetBlocker will ensure that a deeper level of support is available more widely across the Turkish diaspora.

BetBlocker would like to offer our deepest thanks to Fatmatuz Zehra Pehlivan, a Clinical Psychologist and researcher, who volunteers Green Cresent in the field of addiction treatment. Fatmatuz volunteered her time to help translate our app, and every Turkish language user we support owe her their thanks for the donation of her time and expertise.

As with many of the communities BetBlocker now supports, we would not be able to reach so many people without the kindness and generosity of field experts like Fatmatuz.”
