MERKUR Casino UK has donated £2000 to Gillingham Street Angels as part of its ongoing community programme.
Founded in 2018, the Kent based charity is dedicated to tackling homelessness, food poverty and health inequality through a holistic approach, and is a vital support system for families.
The charity brings together local communities to address not only immediate needs but also the mental, emotional and social needs to improve day-to-day life for people.
The funding from MERKUR will be utilised to make essential improvements to the resource centre, aiming to make it a more comfortable and user-friendly experience for those who rely on the charity regularly, ensuring people can access the help that they need, when they need it.
The programme reflects MERKUR’s commitment to social responsibility and community engagement, working closely with local groups to identify areas where they can make a positive impact on the lives of local residents.
Tracey Errington, operations manager at Gillingham Street Angels, said: “We cannot thank MERKUR enough for choosing to support us with the funds to improve our new community resource centre. We are extremely proud of the services and support that we offer from the centre and these additions will make it a more comfortable and welcoming experience for all those who use it.”
This donation is a part of the MERKUR Community programme, launched in January 2024, aimed at assisting non-profit organisations, clubs, and regions where the company operates.
Since its launch, the programme, funded by MERKUR and voluntary donations from its customers from venues across the UK, has donated £287, 514.75, including 3 corporate partnerships this year, to support over 120 community groups and charities nationwide.
Mark Schertle, chief operating officer at MERKUR, said: “Gillingham Street Angels are a great example of a grassroots charity that is making a genuine difference.
“The organisation perfectly aligns with our values of social responsibility and building communities. Through MERKUR Community, we aim to create meaningful partnerships with organisations that make a real difference. The work that Gillingham Street Angels has done is vital to improving the quality of life for the people suffering with homelessness and food inequality in and around Medway. It is great to see the positive impact that this charity has on the local community.”
