JAMES BALDWIN WINS ALPINE ESPORTS SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP

Alpine Esports is excited to announce that James Baldwin wins the 2nd edition of the Alpine Esports Series Championship powered by Binance. In collaboration with sim racing partner Race Clutch, the final round saw George Boothby come out victorious on the world-famous Nürburgring GP track. 

The third and final round of the Alpine Esports Championship Series took place at the world-famous German Nürburgring GP track. Going into the race all eyes were on series leader James Baldwin to see if he could close out an overall win. The sprint race provided a wealth of excitement with George Boothby coming out on top and securing ten points heading into the main race.

The main race saw a very close drive at the top of the grid with Boothby and Whitehead going head-to-head in second and third. However, it was Marko Pejic with an impressive drive that saw him come across the finishing line first. With points from both races calculated it was George Boothby in first with 28 points, Marko Pejic in second with 25 points and Luke Whitehead in third with 20 points.

Despite only getting 8 points in Round 3, the work that Baldwin had put in earlier in the series saw him comfortably crowned the winner of the Alpine Esports Series Championship with 72 points overall. As the winner Baldwin wins a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with a premium Alpine A110 GT4 track day experience, $40,000 worth of ALPINE Fan tokens, high-quality Philips Hue light bundle, FreeM Sim-Racing Alpine Esports shoes and gloves.

The Alpine Esports Series Championship was powered by the world’s leading blockchain ecosystem and cryptocurrency infrastructure provider, Binance who gave away a shared prize pool of $100,000 in ALPINE Fan Tokens throughout the competition. George Boothby took home the Fastest in-game Qualifier Lap with a $1,500 ALPINE Fan Token prize, with a lap time of 1:41:230 and Marko Pejic was awarded the Binance Fastest Lap Award after driving the most fastest laps during the main races. Other Binance prizes involved a shared prize pool of $6000 in ALPINE Tokens for Binance users who scanned the QR code during the Alpine Esports Series live streams and a pool of $4,000 ALPINE Tokens for fans who collected all 5 Binance Alpine GT4 POAP NFTs.

Top racers also claimed various other goodies, including a Trak Racer TRX frame for the runner-up as well as a high-quality BenQ Monitor (EX3410R) for the third-place winner with Freem Alpine, shoes and gloves and a Philips Hue light bundle for the top three drivers.

The second season of Alpine Esports Series saw non-stop action with 250,000 fans tuning in to see the best sim racers go head-to-head across three rounds. The first race which took place at Circuit de Catalunya track saw British sim racing driver James Baldwin take the lead with 29 points with Luke Whitehead following with 26 points and George Boothby with 25 points. The drivers then headed to the Paul Ricard track where once again James Baldwin was crowned the winner extending his lead and going into the final race with an impressive lead.

Esports World Cup 2026 opens in Paris with $75m prize pool

Seven-week event runs through August 23 with 2,000 players, 200 clubs and 25 tournaments across 24 games at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles.

The Esports Foundation has opened the Esports World Cup 2026 in Paris, marking the first international edition of the event. The tournament runs through August 23 at Paris Expo Porte de Versailles and will feature more than 2,000 players and 200 esports Clubs from over 100 countries competing across 25 tournaments in 24 games for a $75 million prize pool.

Organisers said the Paris finals follow the largest “Road to EWC” qualification programme to date, with more than 1.5 million players participating across 330 qualifying events spanning tournaments, publisher leagues and international circuits.

The opening press conference took place at the Hôtel de Ville with opening remarks by Emmanuel Grégoire, the Mayor of the City of Paris.

Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports Foundation, said: “Competitive gaming has always had great players, great games and unforgettable champions. The Esports World Cup brings them together in one defining annual stage. For seven weeks in Paris, every title crowns its own winner, but every result also contributes to a bigger race: the Club Championship. That is what makes EWC different. It rewards not only individual brilliance, but the depth, consistency and ambition of an entire Club.”

The Esports Foundation said Cristiano Ronaldo and Magnus Carlsen return as Esports World Cup Global Ambassadors. The event’s Club Championship will distribute $30 million of the overall prize pool, including $7 million for the winning Club, with Team Falcons aiming to defend its title after wins in 2024 and 2025.

On distribution, the organiser said EWC 2026 will be available in 160 countries via more than 100 broadcast and OTT partners, with more than 7,000 hours of live programming planned and coverage in over 40 languages. The Esports Foundation also said it expects up to 5,000 official co-streamers via its Creator Program, which it described as up 42% year-on-year.

IESF signs host agreement with Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Qazaq Cybersport Federation in Astana.

Astana has been confirmed as the host city for the IESF World Esports Championship 2027 (WEC27), following a host agreement signing ceremony involving the International Esports Federation (IESF), the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the Qazaq Cybersport Federation.

IESF said the event is expected to draw participation across more than 150 IESF Member Federations through the qualifiers, with national teams competing via IESF-recognized national member structures.

“WEC27 will be more than a championship. It will be a global celebration of nations, athletes, and the future of esports,” said Vlad Marinescu, President of IESF. “For every player, there is no greater honor than competing under their national flag and officially representing their nation on the world stage. That is what makes the World Esports Championship so powerful and so unique. In 2027, Astana will welcome the world and proudly stand as the Esports Capital in the World of Esports, uniting our Member Federations, athletes, fans, and communities. Kazakhstan has shown remarkable vision, ambition, and commitment, and we are confident that WEC27 will deliver an unforgettable championship and a lasting legacy for the global esports family.”

Yerbol Myrzabosynov, Minister of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, said: “We are honored that the International Esports Federation has entrusted Kazakhstan with hosting the World Esports Championship 2027. This reflects the confidence in our country’s ability to deliver an event of the highest international standard. Esports and live events operator says it stayed profitable in 2025 and plans 15 arena events across 13 cities in 2026.

BLAST has opened a New York City headquarters in Brooklyn as the company reported record growth and profitability in 2025, including more than $133 million in revenue and over 40% year-over-year growth.

The new U.S. headquarters is located at 45 Main Street in Brooklyn within a shared 55,000-square-foot office space. BLAST said the hub will support partnerships, live events and commercial growth across North America as it expands its U.S. operations.

The North American push is being led by Chief Business Officer Leo Matlock, who has relocated to New York, alongside Steve Rossi, who joined earlier this year as SVP of Brand Partnerships. BLAST said its U.S. team has grown to eight full-time employees.

BLAST said it has staged seven tier-one esports events in North America over the past 16 months, across Austin, Fort Worth, Boston, Raleigh, Los Angeles and Salt Lake City. The company cited “more than $102 million” in economic impact from the 2025 BLAST.tv Austin Major alone, including more than $9 million in hotel expenditures. It also recently announced the Rocket League World Championship will return to Fort Worth in September 2026.

In 2025, BLAST said its broadcasts delivered more than 2 billion live views globally and 300 million hours watched, spanning live events in 22 cities worldwide. The company also said it distributes content via 29 broadcast partners, including SuperSport, France TV and RTBF, reaching audiences in more than 150 territories and 30+ languages.

“Competitive entertainment has become one of the fastest-growing sectors in global media because it combines community, technology and live experiences in entirely new ways,” said Robbie Douek, CEO of BLAST. “The next generation of fans want entertainment that feels participatory, social and global by default. That shift is creating enormous opportunities for brands, publishers, creators and host cities, and we believe BLAST is uniquely positioned to help lead that evolution after a landmark year in 2025.” BLAST said it plans to host 15 arena events across 13 cities and three continents in 2026.
