An Evening Where Care Blooms: BGaming on the Return of the Charity Gala
Following the success of the inaugural Charity Gala by BGaming, the content studio is returning to The Phoenicia Malta on May 29th for another meaningful evening, bringing the industry together to raise funds for a valuable cause.
The invite-only event will raise funds for the DAR Bjorn in Malta, a care centre for people suffering from ALS, MS, and other life-altering neurological conditions.
In this article, we sit down with CEO BGaming, Marina Ostrovtsova, to discuss the story behind the event, the importance of DAR Bjorn, BGaming’s wider approach to charity, and more.
Can you start by telling us a little bit about DAR Bjorn and explaining why BGaming has chosen to support it?
DAR Bjorn is a cause very close to our hearts at BGaming. It is a neurological centre in Malta that provides care and treatment for people living with neurological conditions such as ALS and MS.
The centre was founded by Bjorn Formosa, who actually comes from the iGaming industry himself. He was diagnosed with ALS at just 28, and I think his story resonates very deeply with many people across our industry. Despite everything he’s faced, Bjorn remains incredibly positive, driven, and committed to helping others, which is something our whole team truly admires.
What also makes DAR Bjorn so special is the scale of the support they provide. Today, they care for around 60 residents across their centers and support nearly 800 more people in the Maltese community. The impact they have on people’s lives is very real and very visible.
And of course, Malta itself is an important home for many of us in iGaming. Supporting a local organisation that does such meaningful work felt like a very natural thing for us to do. We genuinely feel honored to support DAR Bjorn and to help contribute, even in a small way, to the incredible work they do every single day.
Last year was the inaugural Charity Gala by BGaming. What did you learn from that? And what has inspired you to return for a second year?
Last year’s Charity Gala was honestly one of the proudest moments for our team at BGaming. We raised more than €200,000 in a single evening, exceeding all our expectations. Those funds went directly toward supporting the construction of DAR Bjorn’s new Respite Centre, which is now becoming a reality.
But I think the most important thing we learned was how much real impact is actually possible when people come together around a shared purpose. Seeing the industry unite in that way was incredibly emotional and inspiring for all of us.
Sometimes in iGaming, we get so focused on the business side that we forget how influential and connected this industry really is. Last year reminded us that when companies, partners, and people decide to support something meaningful together, the result can be far bigger than anyone initially expects.
That’s really what inspired us to come back for a second year. Once we saw the tangible difference the Gala made for DAR Bjorn and the people supported by the centre, continuing the initiative felt like the only natural next step.
Can you tell us a little bit more about this year’s event and what makes it different from last year’s?
We really wanted this year’s Charity Gala to evolve naturally from what we created last year, not just become bigger, but also more ambitious and impactful.
One of the biggest additions this year is our partnership with NEXT.io as the official media partner, which has helped us bring even more visibility to the initiative across the industry. We’ve also expanded the overall experience for guests, with live music by Versatile, a charity raffle, an art auction, and several entertainment and fundraising activities throughout the evening.
But I’d say the biggest difference this year is the level of clarity around the impact itself.
Last year, the funds raised helped support the construction of DAR Bjorn’s new Respite Centre. This year, the focus shifts toward equipping that centre with very specific medical and care equipment, including ventilators, oxygen concentrators, specialised beds, and resident rooms. So people can very clearly see where the support is going and how it directly improves residents’ quality of life.
And honestly, one of the most inspiring things this year has been the level of support from the industry itself. Seeing companies like Flutter, Alea, SiGMA, MyAffiliates, 1spin4win, Finteq Hub, and Amusnet Gaming come together around the same cause really shows how deeply this initiative resonates within the iGaming community.
Art and creativity sound like they will be two key focuses for the evening. Can you tell us more about this?
Art and creativity have always been a very natural part of BGaming’s identity, so it felt important for us to bring that into the Charity Gala as well. This year, we’re incredibly lucky to collaborate with two outstanding artists, Gonçalo MAR and L7Matrix, both of whom are helping turn the evening into something much more immersive and emotional than a traditional charity event.
The Gala will feature an art auction with works by Gonçalo MAR, alongside a live art performance by L7Matrix during the evening itself. Art has this unique ability to create emotional connection and tell stories without words, which fits very naturally with the spirit of the initiative.
But what makes this year especially meaningful for us is the collaboration with the residents of DAR Bjorn themselves. Together with Gonçalo MAR, they participated in creative workshops that inspired a special merch collection connected to the Gala.
For us, it was important that residents were not simply beneficiaries of the initiative, but actual participants in it. Their stories and creativity became part of the project itself.
The collection will be available during NEXT Summit Valletta and online, with proceeds going directly toward supporting DAR Bjorn and the new Respite Centre.
The DAR Bjorn Charity Gala by BGaming is one of several CSR initiatives and events BGaming has been involved with in 2026. How does this align with the company’s wider philosophy?
CSR initiatives are a very important part of how we see BGaming as a company. We often describe ourselves as being “beyond” a game provider, and for us, that idea goes far beyond products or entertainment alone. It’s also about the kind of impact we want to have in the communities around us.
Whether it’s the Charity Gala by BGaming or initiatives like our recent collaboration with Centurion in Brazil, focused on supporting underserved communities, the common idea behind all of these projects is quite simple: if we have the ability to help, we should use it.
We don’t approach CSR as something separate from the business or as a short-term PR activity. It’s much more about responsibility and long-term involvement. We operate in many different markets around the world, and we genuinely believe it’s important to support the communities connected to them in a meaningful way.
I also think initiatives like this help show a different side of the iGaming industry. People often see the industry only through a commercial lens, but in reality, it’s filled with passionate people, strong communities, and companies capable of creating real impact when they come together around a shared purpose.
The industry has enormous reach, resources, and influence. And I believe projects like this are a reminder that those things can be used not only to grow businesses, but also to genuinely improve people’s lives.

BGaming Releases ART Collab Slot Yokai Together with Gonçalo MAR
Rapidly expanding content provider joins forces with popular Portuguese street artist for its first slot in the series
Popular iGaming content provider BGaming has announced the release of Yokai, the debut title in its new ART Collab series, developed in partnership with one of Portugal’s most influential street artists, Gonçalo MAR.
ART Collab is an ongoing collection of titles created together with street artists from around the world. Each title will see the studio work alongside a different artist, helping them bring their individual art styles to life on the reels. Yokai marks BGaming’s third collaboration with Portuguese street artist Gonçalo MAR, following two previous projects, and this is the first time the partnership has evolved into a full game.
The partnership started when BGaming first encountered the artist’s work at an exhibition in Lisbon. Since then, they have worked together on various projects, with MAR’s work recently auctioned off as part of BGaming’s Charity Gala in aid of DAR Bjorn.
The reels have become a digital canvas for Gonçalo MAR’s creativity. The design, artwork, and story were created by the artist and brought to life with the help of the BGaming Team. The slot features various nods to the artist’s portfolio, including the appearance of his iconic ‘Turista’, a finger-fish image that inspired the game concept, as a symbol on the game grid and the head of the main character.
In Yokai, players join a mysterious Samurai on the edge of an ancient Japanese forest in the shadow of Mount Fuji. The Samurai stands guard alongside the Yokai, the fortune-bearing spirits of the woods, and watches patiently at the side of the reels, bursting to life at various points during the game, slicing the reels and triggering the bonus round. The Yokai spirits appear and vanish across the board during idle moments, giving the slot’s world a life of its own, and making it the perfect title for live-streaming sessions.
On the gameplay side, Yokai is just as creative, featuring two types of Wilds, cumulative multipliers, and a Free Spins bonus round, which keeps players on the edge of their seats by serving up a random number of spins each time. It also boasts strong winning potential, with a maximum win of x8,000 and a 97% RTP.
Like many other BGaming releases, the slot offers two Buy options. Buy Chance allows players to double the likelihood of triggering the bonus at a slightly higher stake, while the Buy Bonus allows players to access Free Spins immediately.
Ruslan Shakhlovich, Game Designer at BGaming, said, “Yokai is the first game in our ART Collab series, and it perfectly sets the tone for what we want the collection to be. It represents a genuine creative partnership, and you can experience Gonçalo MAR’s touch and vision throughout the slot.
Outside of the visual appeal, the game also delivers engaging gameplay and great winning potential. We are excited about the start of this new series, and we believe that Yokai is the beginning of something very special for BGaming and iGaming in general.”

LatAm: Beyond Brazil – Chile, Uruguay and Peru’s Regulatory Trajectories
Looking beyond Brazil, which LatAm market stands out most right now, and what makes it attractive?
Liam Hoofe, Content Strategist at GameOn
Based on our research for GO Intel, I think Chile is the market to watch out for the most. The size of the opportunity is potentially massive, with the Chilean Senate’s own figures estimating that more than 5 million Chileans are already gambling online.
The demand is definitely there, and broader discussions about a regulatory framework are underway. Our estimates in GO Intel also put channelisation rates at 80% if enforcement and regulation ran smoothly.
The proposed ‘cooling-off’ period for operators already active there is also quite a unique approach, and it will benefit those who approach the market with the right foundations in place.
Of course, as we’ve seen with Brazil, there will no doubt be a lot of public debate around the market, and the tax structure could be complex, but of the three we researched, this one still stands out the most.
Paulina Hovar, Lead Sales Manager LATAM at BGaming
Right now, Mexico and Argentina stand out the most to me.
Mexico has been showing steady growth for a while now. It’s already a fairly mature market with strong operator presence, but there’s still plenty of room to scale. At the same time, one of the main things to watch is the tax situation and how regulation may develop in the future, since that could impact profitability and market dynamics.
Argentina is interesting for a different reason. The market is regulated at the provincial level, so it’s much more decentralized. That creates opportunities because entry can be more flexible, but it also means you need to understand the local landscape and choose partners and regions carefully.
Ramiro Atucha, Board Advisor to Kiron Interactive
Mexico stands out. The size of the market alone makes it attractive, and the current regulation is already acceptable enough for public companies to feel comfortable operating there. It’s also moving toward a more formal framework, so there’s still margin to grow. Beyond Mexico, I’d point to Chile, certain provinces in Argentina, and Colombia. All three have their own dynamics, but they’re markets you can’t ignore right now.
When entering markets that are still evolving from a regulatory perspective, what’s the right balance between moving early and waiting for clarity?
Liam Hoofe, Content Strategist at GameOn
That’s the million-dollar question, and it’s one I’m not sure there is a 100% correct answer to. For me, it’s about building relationships, ensuring you have the right infrastructure in place, and understanding a market before you invest.
Operators and studios that just enter with no understanding of the culture and of the way the regulatory landscape could adapt are putting themselves at risk of failing.
Trying to remain one step ahead of regulation and working alongside the regulators to help the market mature is always going to be a much better approach than just waiting for regulation to come into place and being reactive.
Paulina Hovar, Lead Sales Manager LATAM at BGaming
It depends on how mature the market is.
If the regulatory framework is already clear and established, then the best approach is to operate fully within the licensed model from day one.
But in markets that are still in a gray or transitional stage, where operators are already active, it can make sense to take a more gradual approach. That could mean building partnerships, adapting the product to local needs, and preparing for future regulation before fully committing.
You also have to be very careful about legal and reputational risks. Every market is different, so timing and level of involvement should be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Ramiro Atucha, Board Advisor to Kiron Interactive
As early as possible, as long as it isn’t illegal or forbidden. That’s the right moment to enter and transition through the regulatory process. Brazil is the clearest example. Sports betting was legalized in 2018, but the full regulatory framework only came in late 2023, with licensed operations starting in 2025. The operators that used those years to attract players, test the market and build name recognition without breaking the law made a real difference. By the time regulation arrived, they were already established.
As markets like Chile, Peru, and Uruguay develop, what will separate the brands that succeed from those that struggle?
Liam Hoofe, Content Strategist at GameOn
The biggest differentiator for me is localisation, and by that, I mean real localisation, not just translating a game into Spanish and calling it a day. This means actually creating products and promotions that speak to local audiences. LatAm is not just some big monolithic market with a one-size-fits-all solution – brands that succeed there are the ones that understand this. The ones who know that a player in Chile is not the same as one in Uruguay or Brazil are going to be the big winners.
On top of that, working closely with regulators and showing genuine concern for players’ well-being in these markets will make a huge difference. It’s not enough anymore to just display simple responsible gambling tools; players want to see it in your actions, and it’s obvious to them which brands really care and which are just ticking boxes.
And finally, local partnerships. Some of the most successful companies we work with are those that really integrate themselves and find local partners that offer genuine insight into communities, and can be leveraged to build trust. This can be achieved in a number of different ways, whether it’s through working with local content creators and influencers or getting involved with local charities and events.
Paulina Hovar, Lead Sales Manager LATAM at BGaming
As markets like Chile, Peru, and Uruguay continue to develop, the following three factors will set successful brands apart from the rest.
First, strong local partnerships. Without people on the ground and a real understanding of how each market works, it’s very difficult to build a sustainable position.
Second, product adaptation. Translation alone is never enough. Companies need proper localization that reflects user behavior, cultural differences, and local audience preferences.
And third, regulatory readiness. The companies that invest early in certification, compliance, and building the right processes will have a major advantage later on. It’s expensive and takes time, but in regulated markets, long-term preparation usually makes the difference between short-term growth and lasting success.
Ramiro Atucha, Board Advisor to Kiron Interactive
Brands that bring international experience and proven competitiveness from other markets, combined with genuine local understanding, will get the best of both worlds. The international background gives you credibility and product depth. The local presence gives you a product that’s actually adapted to how players in that country behave. Neither side works on its own. In Chile, Peru, and Uruguay, the operators who get this combination right are the ones who’ll separate from the pack.
