WePlay Esports and top CS:GO teams unite for WePlay Academy League

The WePlay Esports media holding company and leading world Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) organizations have announced the WePlay Academy League. The new circuit is aiming to shape the standards for the CS:GO industry in fostering new talents.

With the support of top CS:GO teams, the up-and-coming players will have an opportunity to get closer to the professional esports scene and gain first-hand competitive experience.

The WePlay Academy League Season 1 begins with an online round-robin Group Stage, where the teams meet each other twice. The three strongest teams advance to the double-elimination Playoffs that will take place at the WePlay Esports Arena Kyiv. The team that takes eighth place is eliminated. The remaining four enter the Gauntlet stage to fight for the remaining slot in the Playoffs. The total prize pool of the CS:GO league Season 1 is $100,000.

To participate in the tournament, the players and teams must fit a list of requirements. Each team will consist of at least four players aged between 16 and 20.

Event schedule:

Group Stage — July 19 – August 01, 2021 (possible tie-breaker matches will take place on August 03)
Gauntlet Stage — August 07–08, 2021
Playoffs — August 27–29, 2021

“The league provides an excellent platform for the young prodigies to show themselves, competing against their counterparts from other clubs. There’s also the process of getting ready to play against certain opponents and the long-term planning of roster changes for playing certain roles. There will be media days and interviews, the players will develop as individuals. In general, there will be everything that’s already present in Tier 1 CS:GO, everything you need to get used to at the very early stages of your career as a pro gamer. This project will boost the development of youth teams of the world’s best clubs. NAVI and the other top teams will surely be interested, as it will provide more opportunities for young talents to get the necessary support and do what they love. It will also offer an exciting story for the audience, who will be able to watch the players’ progress from the very beginning and watch how ordinary kids go all the way, finally getting into the main rosters of their clubs, and go on to win the world’s largest events,” says Aleksey Kucherov, Natus Vincere CОO.

Ukrainian esports team L&G won the Dragon EC Cup tournament, held on the 20th of April by Dragon Esports Club. Four teams competed in the tournament’s final: Lazer Cats, L&G, which received a direct invitation to the final stage, EsportsBattle, and ThunderFlash, which had open qualifiers. During the Grand Final, the L&G team competed with Lazer Cats on Mirage, Anubis, and Vertigo maps.

“This victory is a testament to the exceptional talent and commitment of our players, as well as the collective effort of our coaching staff and support personnel,” said Alona Shevtsova, founder of L&G Esports. “We are immensely proud of their accomplishments and grateful for the unwavering support of our fans.”

L&G is among the top 5 Ukrainian teams in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. It was founded in 2021. The previous name was Leogaming, and it was created on the initiative of the famous Alona Shevtsova from the fintech sector.

The team began competing in top tournaments and almost immediately made it to the Advanced division of the ESEA League Europe competition. The team also participated in and took prizes in European tournaments such as the SCL League, WhiteBit Crypto Open, Phoenix League, and local competitions. The team players are marat2k, r0ublE, kr1vda, kL1o, OneUn1que, rji (coach).

The winners received a 50,000 UAH prize. Dragon Esports Club also prepared a 15-skin giveaway for the broadcast’s viewers.

IESF Announces the European Regional Qualifiers for Esports World Championship

The International Esports Federation (IESF) has announced the European Regional Qualifiers for the 16th World Esports Championship. From July 6 to July 31, 750+ athletes from Europe will compete for a slot at WEC24, set to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

As the only fully online event hosted by IESF in 2024, this tournament will spotlight Europe’s best esports talent across four game titles. The event will feature competition in the following categories:

CS2 Open
CS2 Women
MLBB Open (Mobile Legends: Bang Bang)
MLBB Women
PUBG MOBILE
DOTA2

Athletes from 43 nations will compete in the event, determined to claim victory and proceed on their journey on the “Road to Riyadh”. The national champions of the eFootball series will advance directly to WEC24.
