Lotteri-og stiftelsestilsynet, the Norwegian Lotteries Authority, has earmarked “several areas for improvement” for national lottery operator Norsk Tipping to make its games safer for players.

Publishing its annual report assessing Norsk Tipping’s performance to be an exclusive Norwegian gambling licensee, the NLA has offered improvement measures to ensure players’ safety using its products.

Whilst making the important caveat that Norsk Tipping mainly offers gambling in a responsible manner, NLA has requested that the operator makes key improvements with regard to its Kongkasino product.

The regulator has requested that Norsk Tipping explain why so many game titles are available on the casino app amid concerns that too many games can cause gambling-related harm.

Furthermore, the regulator suggested that the lottery operator reduces the availability of Kongkasino from the login page of its app, whilst also noting it should investigate the potential of a mandatory one-hour break for players in-between games.

Highlighting concerns over the Kongkasino app, NLA suggested that Norsk Tipping should reduce jackpot winnings on the platform to reduce dangerous gambling behaviour by players at-risk of harm.

Meanwhile, the regulator also noted that Norsk Tipping must collaborate with Nork Riktoto to produce campaigns to inform consumers about the risks of gambling harms and the impact it can have on both players and their families.

Henrik Nordal, Norwegian Lotteries Authority Director, commented: “It is especially the casino and odds players we want better protection for.

“We point out several areas for improvement that Norsk Tipping should implement. In addition, we recommend greater cooperation between the two exclusive players, Norsk Tipping and Norsk Rikstoto, related to information about the dangers of playing too much.”
