SBC Summit: Safeguarding the Player – Innovations in Player Protection
The gambling and sports betting industry is experiencing significant transformations in the digital realm, striving to leverage all available innovations. However, one thing remains unchanged: the importance of dedicating time and effort to understanding how to keep player safety at the forefront.
To support this, the upcoming SBC Summit will feature a dedicated ‘Player Protection Zone’, providing a framework for a robust gambling harm prevention ecosystem. This event, welcoming 25,000 industry professionals, will take place from September 24-26 at the Feira Internacional de Lisboa.
The dedicated show floor will provide delegates with the opportunity to explore the next generation of safeguarding systems and products, as well as meet leading safer gambling service providers and associations. Brands already confirmed include BetBlocker, Crucial Compliance, EPIC, GamCare, Gamble Alert, Gordon Moody, Mindway AI, Neccton, Recover Me, Safer Gambling Training, Verifeye Online and W2 by FullCircl.
In addition, the positioning of the zone on the show floor will provide delegates with seamless access to the Food Festival, featuring a series of food trucks offering multiple catering options and a dedicated lounge.
Rasmus Sojmark, CEO & Founder of SBC, remarked, “The online space has brought a wealth of innovations to the industry, from advanced betting platforms to new marketing avenues. However, with each innovation, there is always a risk that a small minority may seek to exploit it.
“The goal of this zone is to educate companies on best practices, tools, and strategies to ensure responsible gambling and safeguard players. This includes teaching them how to monitor player behaviour and protect vulnerable groups, educating them on current regulations and legal requirements, and encouraging them to connect with experts who can help enhance their protective measures.”
Delegates aiming to enhance their knowledge can look forward to three days of in-depth discussions on the latest issues affecting the player protection sector. On day one of the educational programme, topics will include the future impacts of emerging technology on responsible gambling strategies, how operators can use existing data to make a meaningful difference in the lives of at-risk players, how operators should respond to increased regulatory scrutiny, how the industry can collaborate with influencers to ensure their interactions with players can be safe as well as profitable, and much more.
On the second day, discussions will focus on how compliance leaders can stay ahead of the curve and ensure thorough oversight, how technology suppliers are incorporating safer gambling initiatives into both new and existing products and the differences and similarities in player protection across established and emerging markets. Additionally, panels will address whether the introduction of affordability checks and loss limits will benefit or hinder industry growth, and how operators can utilise technology, self-regulation measures and partnerships, to enhance regulatory framework implementation.
The final day will spotlight topics including the convergence of responsible gambling with environmental and social governance, the need for internal diversity to effectively address diverse external experiences, strategies for attracting talent from various fields outside the gambling industry, and whether harm prevention initiatives impact long-term profitability.
Player protection and safer gambling experts confirmed to feature across the conference include Fredrik Wastenson (CEO, Svenska Spel Sports & Casino), Tammi Barlow (VP – Global Responsible Gaming, Bally’s), Martin Lycka (SVP for American Regulatory Affairs and Responsible Gambling, Entain), Andrea McGeachin (CEO, Neosurf), Hugo Baungartner (CCO, Aposta Ganha), Mike De Graaff (Co-Founder & Chief Compliance Officer, BetComply), Rasmus Kjaergaard (CEO, Mindway AI), Sam McKnight (Head of UK Compliance & Deputy MLRO, Fitzdares) and many more.
In addition to the Player Protection Zone, delegates can explore the Sports Betting Zone and Casino & iGaming Zone, the Media Headquarters and dedicated Affiliate Leaders, Payment Expert & ESI Lisbon Summits. Each area will include a dedicated show floor, targeted networking sessions, catering options, and a focused educational programme.

Boomerang Partners reveals first Golden Boomerang Awards 2026 leaders in the race for Wimbledon
Boomerang Partners has shared the first leaderboard results from the Kickoff stage of the Golden Boomerang Awards 2026. One month into the tournament’s third season, the first frontrunners have appeared in the race for the stage’s main prize – a trip to the Wimbledon Championships.
The race for Wimbledon starts to take shape
The Kickoff stage has started at a fast pace. After the first month, the leading team has reached 256 points. The rest of the top five currently stand at 218, 156, 142, and 100 points, followed by teams with 93, 62, 30, 26, and 20 points in the top ten.
The early gap is not only about traffic volume. The top teams are also actively using boosts, special tasks, and stage-based opportunities. For the rest of the field, leaving those mechanics unused can quickly turn into lost points.
For now, the top ten are closest to the stage’s main prize – a trip to the Wimbledon Championships, taking place from June 29 to July 12, 2026. But the Kickoff stage runs until June 9, and May leaves enough room for movement. Several major sports events are still ahead, giving active teams more opportunities to earn points before the stage closes.
The Mystery Box draw looks ahead to football summer
Boomerang Partners is also running the first Mystery Box draw during the Kickoff stage of the Golden Boomerang Awards 2026. This mechanic is separate from the leaderboard: five active participants have already been selected at random, with another five to be named by the end of the month. The first Mystery Boxes go to Zitora Agency, AskGamblers & Gentoo Media, alfa:search, Gdc group, and AskBonus.
The Mystery Box is tied to the FIFA World Cup 2026, although Boomerang Partners is not revealing the full contents in advance. For now, the company is only hinting at exclusive football items connected to national teams competing in the tournament.
The next stage of the Golden Boomerang Awards 2026 will run during one of the busiest football periods of the year. By then, the Mystery Box will have a direct connection to what many fans will be watching most closely – the FIFA World Cup.
May brings more room to move
May is the busiest part of the Kickoff stage. The month brings the decisive rounds of European football competitions, the NBA and NHL playoffs, Roland Garros, and other events that tend to concentrate audience interest around key match days.
For affiliate teams, this is where planning becomes important. A steady flow of traffic is useful, but the bigger gains are likely to come from choosing the right days to push, completing additional tasks, and using the remaining point-earning opportunities before June 9.
The first month has shown who started strongest. May will show who can keep that pace – and who can use the final stretch to move closer to Wimbledon.
Kristina Shkredova, Affiliate Team Lead at Boomerang Partners, commented: “The first month has shown that teams are treating the Kickoff stage as a real competition, not just a short campaign. The leading positions are already backed by a clear strategy: teams are using boosts, planning around sports peaks, and staying active across different mechanics. But this is exactly why the stage is still open. In May, one well-timed push can change a team’s position quickly, so consistency and timing will matter as much as the current point gap.”
The road to London remains open
The Kickoff stage of the Golden Boomerang Awards 2026 continues until June 9. Until then, the leaderboard remains open, with updates on the stage results, the remaining Mystery Box winners, and the race for the main prize in London available on the official Golden Boomerang Awards website.

SkillOnNet launches MegawaysCasino in .com markets under MGA licence
SkillOnNet has launched MegawaysCasino across multiple international .com markets under its Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) licence, the company said.
The expansion follows a relaunch of MegawaysCasino in the UK in March under the SkillOnNet umbrella, which the company described as a strong performer.
MegawaysCasino is built around the Megaways
slot mechanic, a variable reel system originally developed by Big Time Gaming that can offer up to 117,649 ways to win, according to the release. SkillOnNet said the platform includes more than 8,000 games spanning slots, crash games, table games and live casino.
Giordana Anticoli Kalifa, Country Manager at SkillOnNet, said: “MegawaysCasino has performed exceptionally well in the UK, and it quickly became clear that there was strong demand for this experience in other regulated markets. With Megaways
already hugely popular worldwide, expanding under our MGA licence allows us to bring this iconic product to even more players in a safe and fully compliant way. This is just the beginning of our global journey.”
