More bets coming in for Veronika Kudermetova, Daniil Medvedev

Leading crypto sportsbook Cloudbet reveals that some bitcoin bettors are backing Wimbledon outsiders Veronika Kudermetova and Daniil Medvedev as they search for value outside the tournament favorites.

The surprise move this past week at Cloudbet was for Kudermetova, the WTA’s 12th-ranked player. The Russian accounted for 29% of new bets placed by Cloudbet players in that time on who will win the Wimbledon women’s title, data from the operator show.

In the men’s draw, 20% of new bets have gone for Medvedev, even though the former world No. 1 has yet to fully prove himself at Wimbledon. Unsurprisingly, Carlos Alcaraz snagged 29% of new bets on the men’s title after the 20-year-old wunderkind’s Queen’s Club victory last weekend.

Novak Djokovic and Iga Swiatek remain the firm men’s and women’s title favorites, respectively, Cloudbet odds show. Swiatek, the top ranked WTA player, got almost as many new bets as Kudermetova on Cloudbet.

“It’s clear who the favorites are, but if you’re betting on Wimbledon, you want to maximize your profits by backing an underdog or two,” a Cloudbet spokesperson said. “The search for value is on and that’s why we’re seeing some of these interesting moves in the market.”

Kudermetova’s tournament winner line has narrowed significantly in the past week after she toppled the more fancied Aryna Sabalenka at the Berlin Open. Kudermetova has had a solid year, progressing to three major semi finals and one final in 2023.

Medvedev’s tournament line has widened this past week after he lost in the quarterfinal round of the Terra Wortman Open in Halle, Germany.

“In a year in which Medvedev has won the Miami Open and the Italian Open, his current odds may represent good value for money,” the Cloudbet spokesperson said.
