Star Sports offer £50k for double-crown English and Irish Greyhound Derby winners
Bookmaker Star Sports have again announced a £50,000 bonus will be up for grabs for trainers and owners who see their greyhounds win both the 2021 Star Sports/TRC Events & Leisure English Greyhound Derby at Towcester and the Irish Greyhound Derby at Shelbourne Park.
The bonus will be a major incentive for trainers and owners to scoop the generous prize for both races, with the English Greyhound Derby final taking place on 10th July and the Irish Greyhound Derby following later in the year on 18th September.
Ben Keith, Star Sports owner, said: “Both the English Derby and Irish Derby represent the ultimate challenge in greyhound racing, and we hope that our bonus will add even more drama to both events.
“We’ve thrown down the gauntlet to both trainers and owners with this added incentive, and it would be fabulous to see a greyhound win the top prizes on both sides of the Irish Sea.”
Nathan Corden, consultant to Towcester Racecourse, said: “This is a very generous bonus offered by Ben Keith and it will certainly whet the appetite of the Irish raiders planning an assault on the Star Sports/TRC Events & Leisure English Greyhound Derby.”
The 2021 Star Sports & TRC Events & Leisure English Greyhound Derby will be held at Towcester Racecourse from Thursday 3rd June, with the final on Saturday 10th July seeing six dogs chasing the winner’s prize of £175,000.
A total of 192 greyhounds will set out on the journey to win the most prestigious and richest race in the greyhound racing calendar. In the early betting, Star Sports go 4/9 that the winner will be a dog trained in Ireland, and in the wide-open ante-post market, Knocknaboul Syd and Newinn Session are the 16/1 joint favourites.
