Delaware County Council Establishes New Body to Manage Online Gaming Income
The Delaware County Council has established a new body to manage the distribution of funds from online gaming to public projects and services.
The Delaware County Internet Gaming Revenue Authority was given full approval at a county council meeting last week. The five members of the body are Doreen Storey, Frances Sheehan, Stefan Roots, Paul Johnson, and Ronald Evans.
Online real money gaming was legalized in the state of Pennsylvania by Gov. Tom Wolf in 2016, paving the way for online casino games, poker, lottery, sports betting, and fantasy sports. Harrah’s Philadelphia launched its online platform the following March.
State law declares that Harrah’s must pass 1% of revenue to the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, which will then distribute it to the Delaware County Internet Gaming Revenue Authority. The money will then be directed into areas of public interest such as the emergency services and grants for economic development.
