UK to Bring Gambling in School Curriculum
Nick Gibb, the UK minister for school standards, has said that the country’s Department of Education (DoE) is going to introduce a new curriculum to educate teenagers on gambling harms and debt-related matters.
The gambling curriculum will be rolled out from September across the UK secondary schools as a part of the Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education programme.
The new curriculum is prepared in association with GambleAware.
The new curriculum will have lessons on the risks associated with gambling. A recent UK statistics disclosed that around 55,000 children were classified as problem gamblers. The programme will educate teenagers on identifying risks across all levels of gambling engagements.
“I want to ensure every child understands the risks, which is why we are making health education — including issues such as addiction and cumulative debt — compulsory from September,” Nick Gibb said.
