  • A new study by Ebuyer reveals how much gaming properties would cost if you were to purchase them in real life
  • Maze Bank Tower in GTA V would be the most expensive to buy at £2,880,000.00
  • One of the most affordable properties to purchase is Raffia Quinta from Oasis Springs at £28,152.19

Whether you’re using your Simoleons to buy your Sims a new villa, or you’re forking out your bells to Tom Nook in Animal Crossing to upgrade your pad, in-game property prices can be costly. But, have you ever wondered how much they would set you back if you were able to purchase them in real life?

It’s no secret that gaming has become more popular than ever, especially over the last year during the lockdowns. In fact, in 2020 UK consumers spent nearly £2.4 billion on digital consoles and games, up from £1.98 billion the previous year1.

If you’ve got your eye on a fantasy property, Ebuyer has analysed* the gaming property market to determine how much certain properties would cost if you were to buy them here and now (technically speaking). To convert the fictional property prices into GBP, food prices were analysed to estimate the exchange rate due to food being prevalent in all games.

According to the findings, the ten most expensive gaming properties are as follows:

Topping the property rich list is Maze Bank Tower in GTA V. The property in the game is located in Pillbox Hill, Downtown Los Santos, and gamers can purchase the tower from San Andreas’ favourite real estate company, Dynasty 8. And whilst it’ll set you back $4,000,000 in-game, if you could purchase it today in real life, it would cost £2,880,000.00… if only!

Taking the second spot is FFXIV. There are five different houses to purchase in the game, and they vary in price. The most expensive is the large plot, with the large mansion equipped with three floors, and a much bigger garden than the other plots. Costing 37,920,000 Gils in-game, it would set you back £407,640.00 in real life.

But if you’re on a strict budget, the most affordable property of them all is Raffia Quinta. Whilst Sims 4 may have first dropped back in 2014, if you’re an avid simmer, the pad from Oasis Springs would cost you only £28,152.19 to buy today… and if that was the case, we’d all own one! Another cheaper option is the small plot with the small cottage in FFXIV, costing £32,991.75.

Commenting on the research, Andy Roberts, E-Commerce Director of Ebuyer, says: “Often we spend so much time immersed in our gaming universes, there is a suspension of disbelief on the real-life costs of factors such as property and bills!

Our research gives food for thought on how much it would cost to live like our favourite characters in real-life. The results really are shocking!”
